Bariatric Surgery Translational Research Lab Faculty. The Research Scientist will design, initiate, perform and oversee a scientific research program and prepare reports and papers based on research results. Exemplifies the Rush mission, vision and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures. This position is responsible for and permitted to only participate in research activities and will not provide patient care. As Assistant Professor / Research Scientist, this individual will perform research in the animal microsurgery field. They will serve as a subject matter expert on animal models of bariatric surgery. They will utilize their experience in complex laboratory techniques to perform research on cell lines, animal models and human tissues. They will design, perform and analyze experiments. They will review, analyze and report relevant literatures. They will write scientific manuscripts for the publication of completed research. They will be responsible for writing and submitting grant applications relevant to their experimental work. They will instruct specific techniques related to their research to Post-Doctoral Research Fellows, under-graduate students and graduate students working in the laboratory. They will conduct research on in-vivo rodent animal models. They will maintain a safe laboratory environment and ensure compliance with governmental and institution policies, procedures, rules and regulations. They will assist in the preparation, submission, and continued renewal of animal welfare with the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee of the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science protocols. They will be responsible for organizing and participating in department activities including journal clubs, workshops, and seminars. Job Responsibilities: This position is responsible for designing, initiating, performing and overseeing a research program utilizing animal models of bariatric surgery. Collects, evaluates, interprets and provides documentation of research data to accomplish research objectives. Prepares manuscripts and research papers for presentation and/or publications. Ensures compliance with governmental and University policies, procedures, rules and regulations. Other duties as assigned. Required Job Qualifications: MD or PhD in relevant field. Experience in live animal surgery and animal models of disease. Previous publication record as demonstrated by publication either as lead or contributing author. Strong analytical thinking with ability to troubleshoot and evaluate data. Demonstrates strong research methodology with the ability to synthesize literature.
