Overview
We are seeking a full-time
Software Engineering Manager
on our
Automotive OEM team
to work in our Brea, CA site. The manager will oversee an experienced team of software architects and engineers in various US locations tasked with designing and implementing novel and innovative approaches to some of the industry’s most challenging technology problems. Garmin Automotive OEM delivers cutting-edge and award-winning in-car technology for the world’s leading automakers. As a Software Engineering Manager, you will contribute to the planning and execution of proofs of concept for industry trade shows, own technology road maps, interface with customers and business partners on joint development initiatives, and shape our technical offer on customer RFQs, RFIs, and RFPs. The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical background in software architecture, a long track record of cross-functional collaboration, and excellent communication skills. Essential Functions Provide leadership and direct the activities of software engineers focused on the design of new products, enhancement of existing designs, and improvement of software architecture design processes and procedures. Directly supervise various levels of team members by setting the tone for the team environment and providing individualized coaching, training, and mentoring. Plan staffing, resource, and market requirements to complete projects. Participate in recruiting activities including reviewing staffing requirements based on project plans, interviewing, hiring, training, and evaluating performance for the team. Maintain and adapt technology road maps by considering nascent market trends and objectively evaluating competing solutions. Evaluate technical offers from software vendors for integration into Garmin’s solutions. Manage external partners and contractors to deliver quality software according to plan. Prepare and present technical concepts and proposals to customers, business partners, and other stakeholders. Coordinate and participate in customer requests for quotes (RFQs, RFPs, RFIs, etc.). Support software architecture activities on awarded programs. Basic Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree or above in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related field
AND
a minimum of 3 years experience as a manager/leader. Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Understanding of embedded systems and architectures. Must be positive, detail-oriented, organized, team-oriented, and a driven problem solver, multi-tasker, and self-starter with the ability to prioritize and lead in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. Desired Qualifications 5-10 years experience managing an embedded software team. Customer-facing experience to include participating in RFQ/RFP process. Extensive software architecture knowledge.
