The Product & Data Engineering team

is responsible for end-to-end development for Disney's world-class consumer-facing products, including streaming platforms Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+, and digital products & experiences across ESPN, Marvel, Disney Studios, NatGeo, and ABC News. The team drives innovation at scale for millions of consumers around the world across Apple, Android, Smart TVs, game consoles, and the web, with our platforms powering core experiences like personalization, search, messaging and data.

Lifecycle Messaging's mission

is to create and deliver scaled, customer centric multi-channel messaging experiences across the customer journey that drive impact in the form of engagement, revenue growth, customer delight & brand trust. Our platform, the Unified Messaging Platform helps us to inform, engage, and delight our guests.

Responsibilities: Lead the design & enhancement of the Unified Messaging Platform critical solutions and services, with an awareness of scalability, performance, and reliability benchmarks. Contribute to the source code implementation of new features in UMP critical services. Submit code change requests, unit tests, integration tests, and investigation results for review and deployment. Build and maintain product-driven initiatives to improve and expand the messaging portal, enhance/improve the underlying codebase to be extensible, reusable, and maintainable. Partake in collaboration and mentorship of more junior developers. Collaborate with your squad, Product Managers, Designers, QA, Operations, and other stakeholders to understand requirements and articulate technical decisions and outcomes. Participate in on-call support, as needed.

Basic Qualifications: Minimum of 7 years of related work experience in the software engineering field, with a focus on building highly available architecture, shipping robust code and creating a positive team environment. Minimum of 1 year of experience crafting and operating large-scale, high-availability backend services. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software, Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or comparable field of study, and/or equivalent work experience. Front-end web development experience working with Typescript, React, HTML5, CSS3, SASS/LESS, and vanilla JS. Experience working collaboratively across development, design, product, marketing, and more. Experience in Modern Java and/or an alternative JVM application development environment (e.g. Scala/Kotlin). Experience with Relational and NoSQL Databases like Postgres, MySql, DynamoDB, Cassandra. Experience with asynchronous programming. Experience with object-oriented programming patterns. Experience using source control systems and CI/CD pipelines (such as git, Github, Jenkins). Strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Experience working with localization and/or internationalization. Solid understanding of A/B experimentation.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience shipping entertainment/streaming media applications/platforms. Experience building messaging experiences, especially Email and Push. A history building internally scalable UI systems. Fluency or certification with AWS services, including S3, SQS, SNS, Kinesis, Lambda, CloudWatch. Familiarity with Terraform or other infrastructure-as-code tooling. Experience building scalable, fault-tolerant, high-uptime systems. Experience with performance tuning and building/maintaining software that is in critical path. Skilled at work breakdown and task estimation with creative and inventive problem solving. Strong understanding of design patterns and principles.

Compensation: The hiring range for this position in San Francisco is $166,800 to $223,600 per year, in Seattle or New York is $159,500 to $213,900 per year and in Santa Monica is $152,200 to $204,100 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
