Job Description:
The Senior Fixed Assets Accountant will process additions, disposals, transfers, and all aspects of the fixed asset accounting including completing all quarterly reconciliations between the general ledger and the Fixed Assets Module. The candidate should have a strong background in Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), be detail-oriented, and have the ability to work with other Berklee teams. The Fixed Asset Accountant will play a critical role in ensuring accurate financial reporting and compliance with accounting standards. The Senior Fixed Assets Accountant will oversee the accounting functions of disposing, tracking, and depreciating all property, plant, and equipment. This includes creating projects for major purchases and working with other area leaders to ensure they are properly managing their capital projects. The Senior Fixed Assets Accountant will review and reconcile all capital accounts within Workday and be in charge of organizing routine inventories. They will also assist in forecasts and projections of depreciation.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintain and update the Berklee fixed asset register, including asset additions, disposals, and transfers.
Record depreciation and amortization expenses monthly for the four Berklee Companies by the cutoff date. Review depreciation expense recorded for correctness.
Perform regular fixed assets reconciliations on a quarterly basis on all Fixed Assets related accounts.
Update the Asset Capitalization Policy as needed.
Review Major Expenditures Authorization/invoices to determine if an item can be capitalized per GAAP and company policy.
Ensure proper capitalization of assets and adherence to company policies.
Track Projects in Progress balances to determine if the Project is completed and ready to be capitalized. Once deemed completed, capitalize the asset accordingly.
Setup new projects in Workday on a timely basis, track projects from creation to the time when they can be capitalized or expensed.
Research proper treatment of assets per GAAP and stay current with upcoming GAAP guidance in assigned areas.
Implement Inventory Process and document detailed Procedures.
Conduct periodic Physical inventory of musical instruments and other assets, document inventory process based on best practices, and create checklists to assist in the inventory process.
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual fixed asset reporting.
Provide reconciliations, explanations, and support to Auditors as needed. Stay current with accounting standards related to fixed asset accounting.
Reporting – The Senior Fixed Accountant will assist the Director of Accounting and Controller in the annual 3ABC and any other filings requesting information relating to property.
Procedures and Manuals – Create or update procedural documents for all phases of fixed assets accounting pertaining to their assigned tasks.
Utilize analytical and problem-solving skills to troubleshoot issues that may arise during Workday asset setup or capitalization.
Gather Asset information such as serial numbers, model #s for asset tracking purposes.
Update the Questions and Answers for the Property Website, ensuring they are relevant to current questions and sticking points.
Provide Fixed Assets information to other departments, as needed, for various reasons such as budget, risk management insurance detail, vehicle detail.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or CMA (Certified Management Accountant) designation preferred.
Years of experience in fixed asset accounting and/or related financial roles.
Proficiency in Workday and Microsoft Excel.
Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting principles.
Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
