Summary The Junior Radiation Protection Technician provides operational and analytical support to the Radiation Protection Department by performing routine surveillance, maintaining safe radiological work practices, understanding and implementing procedural and regulatory requirements. Minimum Requirements A two-year Associate's Degree in Radiation Protection-related coursework from an accredited college or university. In lieu of an Associate's Degree, High School diploma/GED plus six (6) months working experience in Radiation Protection positions OR a Radiation Protection certificate from an accredited college plus two (2) months working experience in Radiation Protection positions. Preferred Special Skills, Knowledge or Qualifications Knowledge of general radiological fundamentals, mathematics (including algebra and trigonometry) and basic physics. Good oral and written communication skills and the ability to follow written procedures. Qualified in INPOs Common Industry Radiation Protection tasks. Nuclear requirement Any PVNGS employee may be called upon to serve as a member of the Emergency Response Organization (ERO) and will be expected to fulfill their obligation as an ERO member. Any PVNGS employee may be called upon to support a refueling or short-notice outage. This includes line roles and responsibilities as necessary to execute outage activities. These are conditions of employment at PVNGS. Major Accountabilities Performs low radiological risk job coverage to ensure the highest level of radiological safety is provided during online and outage work activities. Implements Palo Verde administrative procedures to ensure compliance with Federal and State regulations, and with Palo Verde procedures and policies. Performs radiological surveys, provides accurate documentation and establishes necessary radiological postings as required to maintain positive control for work activities being conducted within Radiologically Controlled Areas (RCA). Maintains positive control of contamination, radioactive material, radioactive waste and radioactive sources by using good ALARA practices and engineering controls. Performs evaluations to maintain occupational exposures As Low As Reasonably Achievable (ALARA). Participates and progresses through an accredited Radiation Protection Technicians training program by successfully completing assigned task qualifications. Inspects, calibrates and maintains radiological protection instrumentation, dosimetry and sampling equipment. Performs activities associated with the Emergency Response Organization including habitability surveys and sampling.
