Required Qualifications: Applicants must specifically address how they meet these required qualifications to meet the requirements of the position.
- A distinguished record in teaching and scholarship with an earned doctorate (or equivalent terminal degree) to warrant an academic appointment at the rank of full professor with tenure in one of Texas State University’s academic departments.
- A minimum of five years of experience in a leadership role in academic affairs.
- A demonstrated commitment to supporting student academic excellence and success.
- Strong communication skills, a commitment to transparency, a willingness to engage and listen to others, a commitment to shared governance, and the ability to collaborate with a wide range of constituencies.
- Demonstrated success in strategic planning and academic administration related to student academic excellence.
- Ability to collaborate with key stakeholders, including employers, higher education leaders, higher education institutions, and understands the workforce and industry needs.
- A commitment to transparency in policy, strategy, and financial management, with an appreciation of and support for shared governance.
- Has extensive experience in using a Data Enabled Approach to identify areas where structural changes are needed to enable student retention and progression.
- Extensive higher education experience, especially in the area of student access, affordability, and quality.
- Broad knowledge of current student issues, collaborative strategies to facilitate the academic success of all students including those who are first-generation and from low-income backgrounds, and an ability to create partnerships with all University constituencies including students, staff, faculty, administrators, alumni, and parents.
The Vice Provost for Academic Success ( VPAS ) serves as a key member of the Office of the Provost leadership team to provide oversight and strategic direction for student academic excellence that is focused on student academic engagement and persistence to graduation. The VPAS is responsible for leading and managing a broad range of services and initiatives related to student academic success and has a portfolio that includes Academic Advising and Transitions (First Year Advising, University Academic Advising, University Seminar and Transfer Initiatives) and Experiential and Academic Initiatives (Testing, Evaluation & Measurement Center, Texas Success Initiatives, Work Study Mentorship Program, Center for Experiential, Community and Career Engaged Learning (EXC2EL), and Service Learning). The VPAS (in collaboration with the Vice Provost for Academic Innovation) also serves as an Academic Affairs liaison to the Round Rock Campus to assist with the launch of Division of Student Success to provide comprehensive and holistic support for students.
Job Duties
- Articulate and implement a vision for student academic excellence that is focused on student retention and persistence to graduation and that is consistent with the university’s broader commitment to excellence.
- Collaborate across the university to create and implement a student lifecycle model from pre-recruitment through graduation that includes innovative academic programs, provides academic support, student academic services, contemporary advising and transformational programs to both undergraduate and graduate students.
- Use data to identify performance gaps in student academic success and work with the university community to develop programs to improve outcomes.
- Provide leadership and optimize the operations of academic advising and transfer initiatives.
- Provide leadership for the Center for Experiential, Community and Career Engaged Learning (EXC2EL).
- Provides leadership for the Service-Learning Excellence Program.
- Supervises direct reports and works strategically with the Provost’s leadership team, Division of Student Success and Division of TXST Global to ensure programs and initiatives lead to student academic success.
- Promote the strategic integration of shared resources (financial literacy workshops, tutoring services, mentoring services, OER ) from multiple divisions to improve student academic success. Eliminate barriers and increase access and affordability of shared resources to students.
- Effectively collaborate with key stakeholders, including employers, higher education leaders, and higher education institutions to understand the workforce and industry needs to better prepare students for post-graduation careers.
- Work collaboratively with the Vice Provost for Curriculum and Innovation to design and implement innovative programs and improve existing academic programs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
