The General Machine Operator uses skills in steel and metalworking, including threading, blacksmithing (forming), manual machining, and operating presses, to create parts for industries like power plants, energy projects, and defense. This role involves setting up, running, and adjusting machines while ensuring high-quality results. Fabrication is primarily of carbon, alloy, and stainless steels and sometimes bronze, Inconel, and Monel, in a variety of production tasks.

What you will do:

  • Operate machines including manual lathes, drills, blacksmith threading equipment, presses, and other fabrication tools.
  • Perform threading, cutting, sawing, shearing, abrasive cutting, drilling, grinding, punching, reaming, deburring, forming, and cleaning operations on ferrous and non-ferrous materials.
  • Interpret operation travelers, blueprints, and oral instructions to obtain specified material and determine the necessary tools and methods.
  • Conduct first-piece and in-process inspections using precision measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, verniers, machinist squares, and thread/plug gauges.
  • Perform setup, adjustments, and maintenance to ensure parts meet specifications and quality standards.
  • Safely operate material handling equipment, including cranes, dollies, and carts, for transporting raw and finished materials.
  • Store tooling, inserts, and other items in an organized manner with appropriate labels or identifiers.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment, adhering to all company safety standards.
  • Crosstrain on various equipment and processes across the facility as required.
  • Identify and report safety hazards, helping in their remediation.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by the Team Leader or Supervisor.
What you will have:
  • Ability to lift to 50 pounds.
  • Familiarity with and ability to use measuring tools such as measuring tapes, calipers, and thread gauges.
  • Must obtain certification to operate forklifts and hoists.
  • Proficiency in basic computer skills.
