The Need
For over 25 years, IJM has pioneered the work to protect vulnerable people from violence. 9 out of 9 times in the last decade, IJM’s Justice System Strengthening Projects have reduced slavery and violence between 50 and 85% for very large populations of people in poverty. As we grow to expand our impact to protect 500 million people from violence, we are seeking a Global Director, Operations Technologies.
The Global Director, Operation Technologies will be responsible for delivering maximum value to operations business leaders (Global Finance, Global Risk & Legal, Global People Support, Global Technology) through close collaboration and partnership on IJM’s multiple global enterprise applications. As IJM continues to scale, this leader will oversee a growing and complex portfolio of core enterprise applications. These applications currently include Workday (Platform, Finance, and Adaptive), ServiceNow (Service Desk, Legal), Global Business Intelligence tools (PowerBI and Tableau), Integration platforms (Boomi, CData), and global data technologies (Microsoft Azure).
The primary responsibility of this position is to partner with the Operations Council constituents to deliver consistent, standardized operations technologies and ensure scalability of the team’s structure and global support model. The Global Director, Operations Technologies leads development and support teams and facilitates continuous stakeholder engagement to deliver quality solutions that are production-ready for the business. This position partners with the Business, Enterprise Portfolio Management Office (EPMO) and Global Technology Solutions (GTS) teams to ensure alignment while executing the product roadmap. This role provides guidance as it relates to best practices and ensures long-term success of solutions. The Global Director, Operations Technologies is also responsible for full system development life cycle, from requirements gathering through implementation of various functional architecture solutions.
This position is based in the Washington, DC area and is available to be hybrid (onsite Tuesdays & Thursdays). It reports to the Vice President, Enterprise Applications and is only available for candidates with the right to work in the US.
Key Result Areas:
The success of this role is measured by the following KRAs:
- Management of Global Workday FIN and Cross-Functional modules and Budget platforms, as well as add-ons and core integrations.
- Management of technical components of IJM’s Data Strategy including Business Intelligence, Business Integration, Business Analytics, and data storage.
- Management of ServiceNow application delivery.
- Ensure teams meet standards for business analysis, configuration, development, testing, and delivery of new features in order to deliver quality solutions that are production-ready.
- Manage global configuration planning and execution with external vendor resources, internal analysts, business partners, and EPMO.
- Develop technical strategy and product roadmaps, provide product governance and manage release schedules in order to ensure long term viability and continuous improvement.
- Drive continual product improvements and inform the technical product roadmaps with new ideas based on strategic vision, product performance, and ongoing user requests.
- Manage and mentor a team of managers, product leads, and analysts, as well as coordinate and oversee IT partner or vendor teams to ensure high quality delivery.
- Leverage and bolster IT industry networks to ensure teams stay current on technology changes and opportunities.
- Coach managers in excellent vendor management of software partners especially during contract negotiations.
- Participate and sometimes lead in strategic planning to assist the business in determining how to more effectively leverage technology for their business needs.
- Drive successful adoption and value realization of systems deployed, at both the home office and field levels.
- Maintain budget responsibility for all operational technologies.
Responsibilities:
Leadership and Management
- Set and manage a ~$2.5M annual global system and staff budget, including creation/maintenance, quarterly forecasting, and variance analysis.
- Oversee the safety and reliability of IJM’s Operations Technologies - platform and system integrations.
- Personnel manager in a global matrixed organization; leads team of 8-10 staff and contractors, and 5+ external contractors at any given time.
- Oversee day to day operations, including disaster recovery, business continuity, and change and incident management for Operations Technologies.
- Advise IJM Executive Leadership in the design and implementation of scalable, effective Operations Technologies.
- Foster and encourage spiritual development including the prioritization of spiritual disciplines.
Strategy & Knowledge Development & Implementation
- Oversee the global Workday Finance, cross-functional, and budget platforms, as well as add-ons and core integrations (excluding Human Capital Management).
- Oversee the Business Intelligence landscape, platforms, and strategic technical direction.
- Oversee the Data and Integration landscape, platforms, and strategic technical direction.
- Oversee the ServiceNow landscape, platforms, and strategic technical direction.
- Drive change and provide cost effective value to the organization through the implementation of strategic enhancements for each of the Operations Technologies domains.
- Set technical strategy, establish and maintain product roadmaps, provide product governance and manage release schedules in conjunction with the business.
- Ensure systems within Operations Technologies are secure and effective.
Networking & Partnership
- Partner with Operations Council business leadership to implement and maintain technology solutions.
- Partner with Enterprise Applications, GTS infrastructure, operations, and security teams to ensure systems are within standards, maintainable, and secure.
- Partner with EPMO on global deployments and strategic planning.
- Partner with Global People Support on the intersection of Workday HCM with the core Workday system and finance modules to ensure reliability and prevention of service disruptions.
- Provide excellent customer service to business partners across the globe by resolving system incidents in a timely and effective manner.
- Leverage and bolster IT industry networks to ensure teams stay current on technology changes and opportunities.
- Enhance global technology through relationships with our onshore and offshore vendors and partners, driving all interactions and deliverables to maximize the value and ROI.
- This position may require occasional international travel to IJM offices.
Policies and Procedures
- Oversee the documentation of all Operations Technologies system policies and processes.
- Oversee development of all proposals, statements of work, and contracts for Operations Technologies.
- Deliver protocols and best practices for business analysis, configuration, development, testing, and delivery of new features for Operations Technologies.
- Ensure the implementation and execution of security systems based on IJM’s Data Security Policy as it relates to Operations Technologies.
- Maintain a culture of policy adherence and support, developing and/or modifying policies as necessary to safeguard IJM.
Communication
- Develop product roadmaps in collaboration with Operations Council leadership and regularly communicate progress against that roadmap, including reports on backlog requests.
- Manage the availability of the Operations Technologies team, ensuring effective support to IJM global business needs.
- Oversee cooperative coordination with GTS and business teams on key issues, projects, task-based work, troubleshooting, problem mitigation, bug identification and tracking, service incident escalations, new releases, and other needs.
- Liaison with corporate communications on company-wide communications related to Operations Technologies.
- Maintain strong communication with Global People Support (GPS) with regard to HCM. Coordinate all change management needed with GPS and GTS.
Documentation, Reporting & Data Management
- Oversee and provide daily monitoring, administration and maintenance of IJM’s Operations Technologies.
- Review and inform end-user training for Operations Technologies.
- Provide insights on user adoption and other trends to stakeholders.
- Oversee documentation of system design, operations, and recovery procedures for all Operations Technologies.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience
- Master’s degree in MBA or Computer Science, or any equivalent combination of education, experience, and certification.
- 15+ years professional experience.
- 10+ years ERP systems experience, including new module implementation, project management, issue management, communication, and change management (prior experience with global system support and deployment a plus).
- 5+ years of experience with Shared Service/Operational business process reengineering.
- 5+ years of experience in Project Management, Product Design, and/or Solution Architecture with a proven record of building great enterprise applications.
- 5+ years of global ERP experience (preferably Workday).
- 5+ years experience with data strategy implementation.
- 5+ years personnel management experience, preferably in a global or matrixed organization.
Technical Competencies
- Workday Certifications strongly preferred.
- Operational and design proficiencies in enterprise-wide applications (Workday, ServiceNow, Microsoft Azure experience preferred).
- 7+ years software development and implementation experience; SCRUM certification preferred.
- Experience with project management, vendor management, and budgeting required.
- Bilingual English and Spanish, German, or a language spoken in an IJM office preferred.
