Job Description

Performs complex professional work augmenting the primary health care physician in making medical diagnoses and dispensing medical treatment, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Public Health Nursing Supervisor and the clinical supervision of the Physician Preceptor

Proficiency in accessing and utilizing electronic medical records and various health information systems required for clinical documentation and billing purposes.

Obtain a thorough patient history and physical examination. Perform appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic procedures

Record and present this information to the supervising and referred physicians as indicated

Establishes, maintains, and collaborates with supervising physicians and community partners as needed to maintain relationships and improve client/community health

Develop and maintain health care, therapeutic plans, and counsels' patients

Applies critical thinking in decision making

Engages in contingency planning

Applies principles of ethics, diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice when providing client care recognizing the diversity of individuals and populations served Performs assigned functions as a Disaster Ready Team (DRT) member, if appointed or volunteers. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Thorough knowledge of techniques of interviewing, medical and relevant history taking, principles and practices of general medicine and disease states as they relate to the area of work; thorough knowledge of health appraisal tools, laboratory tests and findings, materia medica, and therapeutic procedures as related to the area of work; thorough knowledge and ability to plan a regime of care based on assessment and findings; considerable knowledge of available resources and appropriate referral methods. Skills in performing clinical functions. Skill in assisting with routine surgical procedures. Ability to examine patients and detect abnormalities; ability to record accurately and completely all information necessary to evaluate and plan care and to convey this to the physician; ability to communicate orally; ability to teach and counsel individuals, families and groups in areas of health maintenance, preventive medicine, and care of the sick; and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and to gain the confidence of patients and families and work effectively with them; some ability to plan and conduct inservice training programs. Ability to operate a personal computer and standard office productivity software.

Education, Experience, and Special Requirements

Education and Experience

Master's degree in Physician Assistant, Nurse Practitioner, or Certified Nurse Midwifery or, related field and moderate experience as a physician extender, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Special Requirements:

-Licensed as a Physician Assistant by the North Carolina Medical Board or as a Nurse Midwifery Joint Subcommittee or as a Nurse Practitioner by the North Carolina Board of Nursing.

-Valid driver's license

Salary will be determined based on qualifications, internal equity, budget, and market considerations.

North Carolina Local Governmental Employees' Retirement System Eligible employees are automatically enrolled in the retirement system and must contribute 6% of their gross salary each pay period. Once eligibility requirements are met, employees will be able to receive monthly payments for life based on their salary, age, and years of service credit.

NC401k The County contributes 1/2% of employees' gross salary into the 401(k) account regardless of the employee's deferral amount. In addition, the County matches employee deferrals up to an additional 2%.

Vacation Leave Regular full-time employees earn 13.5 days of vacation leave per year. With each 5-year increment of employment, vacation accrual increases.

Sick Leave Regular full-time employees earn 12 days of sick leave per year.

Paid Holidays County employees receive paid holidays annually. The Board of County Commissioners approves and may adjust the schedule as deemed necessary.
