The CardioThoracic Surgery team is looking for a 0.8 FTE Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner (PA/NP) to join our team. The Physician Assistant or Nurse practitioner (PA/NP) performs the functions of examining, assessing, planning, and implementing the health care of assigned patients under a licensed physician's supervision and direction. The PA/NP secures patient histories, performs physical examinations, orders laboratory tests, cardiac and thoracic diagnostic testing, develops and implements treatment plans, records findings, and provides patient education to enhance our effectiveness in providing therapeutic health care in relation to cardiac and thoracic surgery.

The PA/NP will work in a clinic setting with patients to obtain pertinent medical history, perform appropriate physical evaluations, interprets orders and pertinent lab and/or x-ray studies, and conveys the information obtained to the supervising surgeon. This role is an integral part of the CT Surgery team to help educate regarding their pre-operative cares, post-op recovery and expectations, and on cardiac and thoracic disorders/conditions. The PA/NP also serves to maintain relationships and shared care with our collaborating teams.

As a part of a collaborative team, this role will include telephone follow up communication in coordination with our clinic RNs to coordinate patient care and surgical wound management. Wound management may also include management of wound VACS. There is also opportunity to be involved in multidisciplinary conferences regarding care for our complex patient population

Part of this position also involves shared call (via telephone/pager) during after hours and weekends. This is split 50/50 with the other clinic APP. Of note, this call does not require the APP to come into the clinic during off hours.

Must have completed an accredited program and be eligible to obtain a license to practice in our multi-state region with no restrictions or limitations.
