This position administers athletic training services in a community or clinic setting under the supervision of a physician and in accordance with the Alaska State Athletic Training Practice Act. These services include but are not limited to, school screenings, injury prevention programs, athletic consults, injury assessment, and treatment and case management of injured athletes/patients. This position may attend practices and games for area schools, athletic clubs, and community athletic events.

Tanana Valley Clinic (TVC) has provided state-of-the-art medical services to the Fairbanks Community and Interior Alaska for over 50 years. TVC is a 60-provider multi-specialty group. Responsibilities

  1. Provides day to day athletic training services, including first aid/emergency care, on-site injury evaluation, appropriate modalities, prevention and rehabilitation and reconditioning programs and medical referrals. Evaluates injuries and develops treatment and exercise plans within the scope of practice. Re-evaluates treatment plans, as needed, to ensure maximum patient benefit.
  1. Implements individualized therapeutic interventions and monitors responses to therapy to ensure patient safety. Reports progress and medical changes to referring physician and/or physical therapist. Documents patient treatment according to professional and regulatory standards.
  1. Provides athletic training coverage for sports or community athletic events supported by FHP. Participates in group or individual community outreach programs. Participates in a variety of activities related to sports medicine. Conducts injury screening clinics, educational programs and workshops to promote safety and injury prevention. Educates patients, families and coaches regarding injuries, risk factor modification, and exercise programs.
  1. Provides emergency or other appropriate medical care to athletes/participants with symptoms or signs of physical distress. Performs range of motion testing, strength and or Manual Muscle testing, sensation testing, palpation, and functional testing, ligamentous testing, and special tests as needed.
  1. Applies protective or injury preventive devices including taping, strapping, bandages or bracing and fitting of athletic equipment. Performs cast application, splinting, and cast removal. Collaborates with Providers to determine the most appropriate cast for diagnosis and treatment. Provides patient education for proper care of casts and splints. Fits orthopedic devices and bracings, and ensures optimal patient comfort and care. Educates patients regarding use of various orthopedic equipment provided to patient to include crutches, canes, walkers, and wheelchairs.

  2. Maintains the athletic training room. Ensures room is stocked, cleaned, and organized. Performs various other duties as assigned.


Performs all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, as well as applicable professional standards. Provides all customers of Foundation Health with an excellent service experience by consistently demonstrating our core and leader behaviors each and every day.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Athletic Training or related field from an accredited university training program.

Must have passed the Board of Certification (BOC) exam and be currently certified as an Athletic Trainer. Must be currently licensed as an Athletic Trainer under the Alaska Division of Occupational Licensing. Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification required.

Must possess strong interpersonal communication and human relation skills. Requires ability to work in a team environment with a variety of health care professionals and providers. Must possess the ability to promote a positive working environment, as well as the ability to positively enhance community partnerships.

Must have scheduling flexibility, as some evening and weekend work will be required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Master's Degree preferred.


At least 2 years experience as a Certified Athletic Trainer preferred.

Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
