Our Client, a Clinical Laboratory Company, is looking for Phlebotomist I for their Washington, DC location.
Responsibilities:
- The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations.
- Collects and stores specimens according to established procedures. Properly explains in a clear but courteous manner the process of the venipuncture (blood drawing) and/or other specimen collection (ex. urine or fecal) as required. Demonstrates techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles. Fully understands all of the physicians' orders. Matches laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes. Labels, centrifuges, splits, and freezes specimens as required by test order. Checks all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% correctness. Packages specimens for transport. Stores specimen samples according to required temperature, places samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes, accurately labels, and follows different procedures as outlined by specific protocols deemed necessary for transport to maintain the integrity of the specimen. Understands and complies with OSHA and DEP regulations. Attends annual department trainings. Answers telephone calls and reads laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.
Requirements:
- Experience doing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data, decontamination, and updating patient information.
- Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state where you will be employed as required in some states. Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. High School Diploma or GED, 0-2 years of experience.
- Phlebotomy – 2 years’ experience preferred.
- Experience with phlebotomy on children and all types of patients.
- Ability to handle hard sticks and needles.
- Detail-oriented with good experience.
- Computer skills, data entry, and processing.
- High School Diploma or GED.
