This is a float position covering the Medford, Boston, and Quincy areas. A clean driving record is required.

Position Responsibilities:

1. Experience performing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data, and decontaminating equipment.
2. Updating patient information and collecting and storing specimens according to established procedures.
3. Clearly explaining the venipuncture process and other specimen collection methods (e.g., urine or fecal) in a courteous manner.
4. Demonstrating techniques using straight and butterfly needles.
5. Understanding all physicians' orders and matching laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
6. Labeling, centrifuging, splitting, and freezing specimens as required by test orders.
7. Checking all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.
8. Packaging specimens for transport and storing them according to required temperatures.
9. Accurately labeling samples and following procedures outlined by specific protocols to maintain specimen integrity during transport.
10. Understanding and complying with OSHA and DEP regulations.
11. Attending annual department trainings.
12. Answering telephone calls and reading laboratory results to address inquiries.

Qualifications:

1. Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
2. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
3. High School diploma or equivalent, or Phlebotomy Certification.
