- Seton Medical Center Harker Heights is an 83-bed acute care hospital offering services such as Cardiology, Emergency Services and a Level IV Trauma Designated ER, General Surgery, Orthopedic Surgery, Total Joint Replacement, Gastroenterology, Diagnostic Services and more.
- Functions as a laboratory professional who performs specimen collection techniques or specimen collection instructions that include; venipuncture, capillary draws, urine collection instruction and specimen culture collection instruction
- Promotes professionalism and interacts with colleagues in a way that promotes a cooperative working environment.
- Ensure specimens are obtained in accordance with laboratory guidelines.
- Demonstrate proper communication skills to relate pertinent data or information about the patient or laboratory sample to appropriate care provider.
- Supports organizational priorities to maintain compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards.
- Attains required competency and demonstrates the ability to follow procedural directions and protocols.
- Able to prioritize and organize workload and assist other coworkers to maintain productivity.
- Follows proper protocols for specimen packaging and specimen transport.
- Responsible for specimen accessioning as assigned.
- Demonstrates proper infection control practices, proper patient identification, performs proper prompt specimen transport.
- Performs proper drug screen collection and processing as assigned.
- Answers laboratory department phone calls.
- Demonstrates ability to recognize emergent conditions and reacts appropriately.
- Provides phlebotomy services in a professional and patient centered manner.
- Engages in self-evaluation of practice and takes action to improve knowledge and skills.
- Retains accountability for quality of care given to the patient.
Qualifications
Job Requirements:
- High School diploma or equivalent
Preferred Job Requirements:
- Completion of an accredited phlebotomy/medical assistant program with clinicals or previous phlebotomy experience
- Certification from nationally recognized agency. Accepted agencies and certifications include, but are not limited to:
- National Heathcareer Association - Certified Phlebotomy Technician: CPT (NHA)
- American Society for Clinical Pathology - Phlebotomy Technician: PBT (ASCP)
- American Medical Technologists - Registered Phlebotomy Technician: RPT (AMT)
- National Center for Competency Testing - National Certified Phlebotomy Technician: NCPT (NCCT)
- American Certification Agency - Certified Phlebotomy Technician: CPT (ACA)
- Experience working in the clinical setting
