Position: Part Time/ Adjunct Phlebotomy Coordinator and Instructor

Savannah Technical College is seeking part time/adjunct faculty for the Phlebotomy program on the Savannah and Liberty Campuses. The adjunct faculty member will provide theory and practical instruction to a level sufficient for students to develop the skills necessary to become employed in the healthcare profession. The position also requires the supervision of students during patient care. All candidates must:

* Provides professional instruction based on approved course syllabus. Ensures that desired course

* outcomes meet the stated objectives;

* Prepares curriculum and syllabus for coursework taught;

* Evaluates students' progress in attaining goals and objectives;

* Administers and grades class examinations;

* Maintains records of student attendance and grades;

* Attends in-service training, workshops and seminars, as needed;

* Maintains program certification requirements;

* Ensures safety and security requirements are met in the training areas;

* Assists with recruitment, retention and job placement efforts;

* Meets with students, staff members, supervisors, as needed; and

* Maintain knowledge of current trends and developments in the field;

* Follow policies/procedures of Savannah Technical College;

* Follow standards for student-faculty professional relationships/interaction;

* Possess basic computer skills to include, but not limited to, word; excel; power point; and email;

* Possess skills in oral and written communication, as well as excellent organizational skills;

* Possess excellent customer service skills to deal professionally with Savannah Tech employees, students, and visitors;

* Must be flexible to teach day and evening classes and clinical;

* Must be flexible to teach at multiple campuses;

* Perform other duties as assigned;

* Follows all safety and infection control rules (Universal Precautions);

* Maintains open and honest communication with Dean, Department Head, and colleagues;

* Assists in training staff/students in proper blood collection by both capillary and venous methods.

Minimum Qualifications

* 1-year relevant work experience.

* Associate's Degree in related field from an accredited post-secondary institution.

* Registered nurse or LPN, in good standing, in the state of Georgia; or Registered Technology/Medical Laboratory Technology; or Medical Assisting; or certification in a related Laboratory Science. such as:

o American Society for Clinical Pathology, Phlebotomy Technician, PBT (ASCP), American Medical Technologists, Registered Phlebotomy Technician, RPT (AMT) National Healthcareer Association, Certified Phlebotomy Technician, CPT (NHA), National Center for Competency Testing, National Certified Phlebotomy Technician, NCPT (NCCT), American Certification Agency

* Basic Life Support/CPR certification or ability to obtain Basic Life Support/CPR Certification within 3 months of hire.

* Must be able to travel to locations throughout assigned service area.

Preferred Qualifications

* Bachelor's Degree or higher in a related field from an accredited post-secondary institution.

* Administrative and teaching experience.

* Prior experience with Phlebotomy certification procedures.

Physical Demands

Teaching responsibilities are typically performed in a classroom/lab environment with the employee intermittently sitting, standing, walking, and bending, for three (3) - four (4) continuous hours at a time. Clinical responsibilities are typically performed in a hospital, outpatient clinics, laboratories, or other medical facilities and require the employee stand/or walk for ten (10) - twelve (12) hours per rotation. The exposure to infectious diseases, gas, or fumes is possible during clinical rotations. Full range of hand and finger motion may be utilized for data entry purposes.
