KEY RESPONSIBILITIESEquipment OperatorOperate heavy landfill equipment including bulldozers, loaders, compactors, and excavators to move and compact waste materials.Utilize specialized machines to cover waste with soil or other materials, maintaining proper landfill design and preventing waste exposure.Control and direct equipment to achieve optimal compaction and landfills' stability.Maintenance and InspectionConduct daily pre- and post-operation checks on equipment to ensure it is functioning properly.Perform routine maintenance, such as cleaning, lubricating, and refilling fluids.Report any mechanical issues or necessary repairs to supervisors or maintenance teams.Safety and ComplianceFollow all safety procedures and regulations to ensure a safe work environment for oneself and co-workers.Maintain compliance with local, state, and federal regulations regarding waste management and environmental standards.Wear and use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and adhere to safety guidelines.Landfill ManagementMaintain and monitor landfill site operations, ensuring proper waste placement and layering.Implement techniques for effective landfill space utilization and compaction to extend the lifespan of the landfill.Assist in grading and shaping the landfill surface to promote drainage and reduce risks such as leachate buildup.Exporting and DocumentationMaintain logs of equipment usage, fuel consumption, and maintenance activities.Document daily activities and report any significant incidents to site management.Collaborate with other operators and supervisors to communicate site conditions and potential challenges.CollaborationWork with other landfill staff and equipment operators to achieve operational goals.Assist in training new operators as needed, ensuring they are aware of safety practices and operational standards.REQUIREMENTSEducation:High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training in heavy equipment operation is a plus.Experience:Previous experience in operating heavy machinery, particularly in landfill or construction environments, is preferred.Licenses/Certifications:Valid commercial drivers license (CDL) may be required.Certification for heavy equipment operation may be needed (e.g., OSHA certification or similar).Skills:Proficient in operating heavy machinery with precision and safety.Strong problem-solving skills for equipment maintenance and site management.Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.Physical Requirements:Ability to lift and carry heavy items.Stamina to work in varying weather conditions and outdoor environments.Manual dexterity for operating controls and performing maintenance tasks.Working Conditions:Work is performed outdoors in all types of weather.The role may require working long hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.Potential exposure to noise, dust, and heavy machinery operation hazards.Adherence to strict safety standards is paramount to prevent accidents and ensure health and safety.ScheduleHours varyDay shiftEvening shiftHolidaysMonday to FridayNight shiftWeekends as neededWork Location:In personWSA believes in Equal Opportunities for all.
