Description
Gaston County Animal Care and Enforcement was established to provide for the health and safety of citizens and protect them from animals and the threat of animals. The mission of Animal Care and Enforcement is not only to enhance the safety of citizens, but also to ensure the proper care and treatment of animals. This is accomplished through animal-related services which reflect our professionalism and a concern for responsible pet ownership.

The duties listed below are not all of the duties that may be assigned but are those that are considered as essential for an employee to perform.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation with a Associates or Bachelor's degree in Veterinary Technology from an accredited school. Must have an active NC Veterinary Technician license registration or be in the process of obtaining NC licensure with at least three (3) years of veterinary tech experience.
A copy of your current RVT Certification must be attached to your application. Failure to attach this documentation will result in your application being rejected.
Prior experience in shelter medicine preferred.
Additional Information
Applicants with less than 5 years of applicable experience will start at 25% of the salary range.
The applicant selected must undergo and pass a drug screening test prior to employment.

- Performs physical examinations, in-house diagnostic testing, administers vaccinations, maintains accurate medical records, prepares and administers medications as part of the established Policies and Procedures.
- Evaluates an animal's health condition in the intake process, prioritizes treatment of animals that are housed in the shelter, and assesses the health condition of animals prior to placement for adoption or rescue.
- Assist with maintaining inventory of supplies and medications.
- Assists in monitoring the health of the shelter animal population, including animals under rabies observation and assisted in actions that is required to prevent disease transmission to the public and among sheltered animals.
- Assists in the foster program with medical checkups and medical concerns of shelter pets in the foster program.
- Assists Adoption Coordinator and Rescue Coordinator in medical examinations and behavior assessments.
- Performs euthanasia by injection as needed due to health, temperament, or space needs. Maintaining associated records including DEA controlled substance records.
