JOB BRIEF

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Hardware Engineer for embedded boards to lead the design, development, and testing of hardware solutions for single board computers and embedded systems. The ideal candidate should have extensive experience in designing and developing embedded systems for various applications and industries. This role requires a strong understanding of hardware design principles, including schematic, PCB layout, and manufacturing processes. The candidate should be able to work independently and in a team environment to deliver high-quality solutions. The candidate also needs to communicate and work with an overseas cross-functional team.

ROLE OBJECTIVE

This role leads the design, development, and testing of hardware solutions for embedded systems, ensuring alignment with cross-functional requirements. Key responsibilities include creating schematics and PCB layouts, selecting components, and performing signal integrity analyses. Collaboration with firmware and software engineers and coordination with contract manufacturers will ensure successful production while staying updated on emerging technologies and adhering to the Quality Management System. Provide a high level of professionalism and act as the project leader to lead the engineering team in a manner that reflects positively on the organization.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Lead the design, development, and testing of hardware solutions.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to understand system requirements and develop hardware specifications.
  • Design and develop schematic diagrams, PCB layouts, and assembly drawings, inputs and processes.
  • Select appropriate components and technologies for system designs.
  • Preparation of technical documents such as specification documents, design document, test cases, and test plan documents, traceability matrices, etc.
  • Perform signal integrity and power integrity analyses to ensure proper functioning of the systems.
  • Collaborate with firmware and software engineers to develop integrated solutions.
  • Develop and execute test plans to validate the functionality and performance of hardware solutions.
  • Work with contract manufacturers to ensure successful production and delivery of hardware solutions.
  • Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies and industry trends to drive innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Compliance with the Quality Management System is required.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND PREFERRED ATTRIBUTES:

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent combination of education and work experience in a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in hardware design for embedded systems, familiar with x86 PC systems and RISC architecture hardware design. Strong understanding of hardware design principles, including schematic, PCB layout, and manufacturing processes.
  • Solid working experience with tools such as Altium/Allegro/OrCAD Capture or any schematics/layout/simulation utilities.
  • Experience with high-speed digital design and analog circuit design.
  • Experience with discrete power electronics circuit design
  • Experience with microprocessors, microcontrollers, and digital signal processors.
  • Experience with testing and validation of hardware solutions.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Proven self-initiative, interpersonal skills, and flexibility to adapt to new technology.
  • Bilingual English-Japanese, English-Mandarin is plus.
