Position summary:
As a Senior Hardware Engineer, you will be a leader in our electronics team, developing new product architectures, implementing hardware circuit designs, coordinating with Robertshaw’s factories, and mentoring other team members.
You should have a high aptitude for design of discrete analog and digital circuitry, developing technical specifications, and leading our team creating innovative controls solutions. You will also have focus on product cost, quality, and schedule.
You will be working closely with product management and software teams as well as some involvement with Robertshaw’s customers to define new products and root cause issues with current products.
This position is hybrid onsite in Itasca, Illinois.
Experience and Competencies- 10+ years of electronic controls design experience for residential and commercial appliances with focus on designing Class C functional safety compliant circuitry, gas spark ignition, HVAC controls, and/or automotive controls.
- Proficient in the design of embedded analog and digital circuitry and systems using embedded microcontrollers.
- Proficient in design of power supplies including DC point-of-load, isolated AC/DC, and non-isolated high-voltage supplies.
- Experience with mixed analog/digital signal conditioning.
- Experienced with industry standards such as IEC/UL 60335, IEC/UL 60730, IEC 61000 series Emissions/Immunity.
- Experience designing for high-volume manufacturing to ensure designs consider DFM, testability, sustainability, and sourcing needs.
- Experience using eCAD schematic entry and PCB layout tools and PSPICE simulation tool.
- Proficient in design verification including developing test plans, contributing to lab testing, and documenting results.
- Great technical leadership to coach and supervise junior engineers in electronics design and testing, making cost and performance tradeoff decisions, and task prioritization.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Familiarity with automotive standards (e.g. ISO, SAE, and EMC requirements).
- Experience leading DFMEA failure mode analysis.
- Design experience with wireless IoT and/or TFT touchscreen products.
- Experience using Mentor Graphics DxDesigner/PADS eCAD tools.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering. Graduate coursework is desirable.
