Job Summary: We are seeking a dynamic and customer-oriented Sales Associate to join our hardware store team. Experience or strong knowledge of hardware, construction, or related industries necessary. This position is part-time and weekend work is required.


As a Sales Associate, you will be responsible for assisting customers in finding the right hardware products, providing product information, processing transactions, and ensuring a positive shopping experience. Your exceptional communication skills and in-depth knowledge of hardware products will play a pivotal role in driving sales and customer satisfaction.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Customer Assistance: Greet customers with a warm and friendly demeanor, inquire about their hardware needs, and offer knowledgeable advice and recommendations to help them find suitable products.
  • Product Knowledge: Develop a thorough understanding of the hardware store's inventory, including tools, building materials, plumbing supplies, electrical products, and other hardware items. Stay updated on new products and industry trends.
  • Sales Generation: Proactively engage with customers to understand their project requirements and upsell additional products or accessories that align with their needs.
  • Merchandising: Ensure products are well-organized and appropriately displayed on shelves. Restock merchandise as needed and maintain a clean and tidy store environment.
  • Cash Handling: Efficiently process customer transactions using the point-of-sale (POS) system and handle cash, credit card, and other payment methods accurately.
  • Returns and Exchanges: Handle returns and exchanges in accordance with store policies, ensuring customer satisfaction while adhering to guidelines.
  • Inventory Management: Assist in managing inventory levels, conduct periodic stock checks, and notify management when products need to be reordered.
  • Customer Service: Address customer inquiries, complaints, and returns promptly and professionally, aiming to resolve issues to their satisfaction while adhering to store policies.
  • Safety Compliance: Promote a safe shopping environment by following all safety protocols, including the proper use of equipment and handling hazardous materials.
  • Team Collaboration: Work collaboratively with other sales associates, cashiers, and store management to best assist customers and maintain a positive store atmosphere.
  • Training: Participate in ongoing product training sessions to enhance product knowledge and improve sales techniques.

Requirements:

Experience, Education and Certifications Desired:

  • High school diploma preferred, but not required.

Other Desired Skills/Qualifications:

  • Experience: Prior experience in a retail sales role, preferably in a hardware store or home improvement setting, is desired but not mandatory.
  • Product Knowledge: Knowledge of hardware products and their various applications, as well as an ability to quickly learn about new products.
  • Customer Service Skills: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively with customers and deliver exceptional service.
  • Physical Stamina: Ability to stand/walk for extended periods, lift heavy objects, and perform physically demanding tasks when restocking merchandise or assisting customers with heavy items.
  • Adaptability: Willingness to work flexible hours, including early evenings (until 7:00 pm), weekends, and holidays.
  • Technology Proficiency: Comfortable using a computerized POS system and other retail-related software.
  • Problem-Solving: Quick thinking and resourcefulness in addressing customer inquiries and resolving issues.
  • Lift and carry items up to 25 pounds. Use a hand-truck or other resource to move/carry heavier items.
