Job Title: Janitor
Division: Community Contracts
Department: Custodial Federal Building - Custodial Fort Shafter
Reports To: Custodial Project Supervisor
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Reviewed By: Human Resources
SUMMARY
Keeps premises of office building, or other commercial or institutional building, in clean and orderly condition by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Cleans and polishes lighting fixtures, marble surfaces, and trims.
Cleans rooms, hallways, lobbies, lounges, restrooms, corridors, elevators, stairways, locker rooms, and other work areas.
Sweeps, scrubs, waxes, and polishes floor.
Cleans rugs, carpets, upholstered furniture, and draperies.
Operates a variety of cleaning equipment including vacuum cleaners, floor scrubbers, buffing machines, and carpet extractors.
Dusts furniture and equipments. Polishes metal work.
Washes walls, ceiling, and woodworks. Washes windows, mirrors, door panels, and sills.
Empties and cleans wastebaskets and ashtrays.
Transports trash and waste to disposal area.
Replenishes bathroom supplies.
Notifies supervisor concerning need for repairs to equipment or tenants' property.
Cleans debris from sidewalk, walkways, and stairwells.
Assists trainees and other persons with disabilities in routine job performance as assigned.
Adheres to company policies, procedures, and safety standards and reports misconduct or unsafe particles to supervisor.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Two years of custodial service experience is preferred with working knowledge of general custodial practices, rest room sanitation, resilient floor maintenance, carpet care and cleaning chemicals.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using of units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instruction. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
