Salary Range: Placement on the adjunct faculty salary schedule is based upon education and credited experience. Initial placement can range from $71.80 up to $98.02 per hour.

The Position

The Colleges seek a part-time faculty member in Counseling. The ideal candidate will share the Colleges’ commitment to educating a racially and socioeconomically diverse student population. This position is a “pool” position meaning that openings may or may not be currently available.

Duties and Responsibilities

The part-time Counselor may:

  1. Teach college success and career and personal development courses
  2. Provide comprehensive counseling services to students, including academic, career and personal counseling on a drop-in and appointment basis
  3. Assist students in clarifying their educational goals, developing student educational plans (SEPs), and selecting courses
  4. Collaborate with both instructional and counseling faculty and staff and with special programs to maximize student success
  5. Participate in the implementation of transfer and matriculation activities at the college
  6. Participate in outreach activities and events in campus classrooms, local high schools, adult schools, and community agencies
  7. Provide follow-up services to students on probation and dismissal status
  8. Utilize and keep abreast of advanced counseling methods which includes integrating technology to support student learning and career objectives

Minimum Qualifications

• Master’s degree or above in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy, or marriage, family and child counseling OR the equivalent.

• Demonstrated cultural competence, sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff.

Conditions of Employment

Prior to employment, the selected candidate will be required to complete the following:

  1. Submit official transcripts.
  2. Submit verifications of prior employment.
  3. Satisfactory references.
  4. Successfully clear the background checking process.
  5. Present original documents for proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
  6. Approval of your employment by the SMCCCD Board of Trustees.
  7. Provide a certificate of Tuberculosis exam for initial employment.
  8. Have fingerprints taken by a Live Scan computer.
