ACCOUNTING MANAGER/ASSISTANT CONTROLLER 12/9/2024
We are seeking a hands-on, detail-oriented and experienced Accounting Manager to oversee and manage the accounting department of a $20MM landscape installation contractor located in Kyle TX. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills and a comprehensive understanding of accounting and financial principles. This role is crucial in ensuring the accuracy of financial reporting, compliance with regulations, and the organization's overall financial health.
The Accounting Manager implements and maintains consistent systems for collecting, analyzing, verifying, and reporting financial information. Additionally, the Accounting Manager manages the accounting department and is responsible for the training and development of accounting staff. The Accounting Manager will also have opportunities to work with other department managers to develop methods to increase efficiency and profitability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the accounting department by providing consistency, guidance, support and improved processes
- Establish, review and ensure proper documentation for all financial transactions
- Fully utilize and manage existing and future accounting systems and software
- Oversee the Accounts Receivable and invoicing process; improving and/or setting procedures when necessary
- Oversee the Accounts Payable and bill payment process; improving and/or setting procedures when necessary
- Assist CPA with general ledger review prior to preparation of monthly financials
- Work with VP of Operations to ensure the correctness of quarterly commercial percentage of completion schedules
- Oversee preparation and submission of bi-weekly payroll data to third-party payroll provider
- Collaborate with department managers to develop inaugural annual overhead budgets for all Company departments and monitor variances at least quarterly
- Review, code and enter all company credit card activity at least weekly
- Work with CPA to design and implement internal control procedures to safeguard company assets, mitigate risk and maintain confidentiality
- Ensure compliance with insurance companies and other regulatory agencies through accurate completion of year-end data reporting
- Provide CPA all requested year-end information to ensure efficient and accurate financial statements and tax returns
- Identify discrepancies, inefficiencies, or areas of improvement and report to Company Management and CPA
- Prepare ad hoc, special reports as requested by Company Management
- Maintain accounting controls by managing chart of accounts and defining accounting policies and procedures.
- Avoid legal challenges by understanding current and proposed legislation, enforcing accounting regulations, and recommending new procedures.
Required Skills

- Thorough understanding of accrual accounting as it relates to the landscape installation industry

- Month-end close and other financial reporting requirements

- Knowledge of sales tax accounting
- General knowledge of payroll accounting and compliance reporting
- Account reconciliations
- Strong foundation in A/R and A/P processes
- Excellent organizational skills
- Strong leadership skills
- Ability to think big picture and take into account long-term implications of organization’s financial decisions and effectively make changes as necessary.
- Expert knowledge of QuickBooks Online (QBO) or other similar accounting software.
- Expert knowledge of Windows applications, especially Excel
- Basic knowledge of project management tools
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Ability to work as a team member
Technical Qualifications:
- 5 Years or more of proven accounting and leadership experience (preferably in construction industry).
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance
- Certifications - CPA preferred but not required
Immediate Goals Upon Hiring
- Become familiar with all general ledger chart of accounts and all products and services utilized on customer invoices.
- Become familiar with all recurring deadlines and schedules for financial reporting, A/P payments, A/R Collections, Sales Tax reporting
- Become familiar with existing staff members within the accounting department. This includes learning their current roles and responsibilities and ultimately making suggestions for improving existing processes
- Demonstrate an understanding of the difference between accrual basis accounting and cash basis accounting methods
- Ensure that the matching principal is being applied properly especially when dealing with commercial jobs
- Understand how each department functions and operates
- Become familiar with our current clients and vendors

Pay: Based on experience [~$80-85K]
