Overview

Develop, manage, and maintain all activities of the accounting department ensuring that procedures adhere to generally accepted accounting principles, credit union policies and federal credit union regulations. Oversee management of the daily functions of the department and incorporate credit union strategic initiatives into the operations of the accounting department. #LI-Onsite

Responsibilities

    Effectively oversee the accounting department functions including supervising personnel, evaluating and improving workflows, and implementing technologies that support the department and credit union, ensuring optimal performance.
  • Provide leadership to assigned personnel through the clear establishment of objectives and expectations, the proper delegation and balance of duties, and clear professional communication. Conduct and review performance appraisals as required. Formulate and implement corrective actions as needed. Ensure that staffing levels are appropriate and human resources are effectively utilized. Ensure employees are properly trained and have access to appropriate technology and systems to perform their jobs effectively.
  • Regularly assess workflow of the department and the impact of credit union policies to the group. Evaluate and make recommendations when appropriate that will benefit and provide greater efficiencies. Ensure policy and procedure changes are implemented.
  • Maintain vendor relationships, coordinate vendor changes, research and correct problems and processing issues. Manage the testing of upgrades and enhancements of department systems in coordination with the Information Technology Department. Assist with negotiations on contracts that impact accounting operations, perform due diligence, obtain references, and provide recommendations.
  • Oversee the monthly balancing and reconciliation of all general ledger accounts, third party investment portfolio reports, and preparation of supporting schedules. Responsible for ensuring all accounts are balanced, and financials are closed each month-end in a timely manner.
  • Manage and oversee the ATM and ITM function for the credit union. Which includes monitoring member and non-member disputes, machine malfunctions, cash orders and replenishment schedules, and communications between the credit union and the cash service vendor.
  • Responsible for preparing and reviewing supplementary schedules to assist with preparation of monthly and quarterly financial and regulatory reports. Provide other month-end reports as needed.
  • Responsible for managing budget to actual tracking within the general ledger.
  • Ensure accounting function and credit union is following applicable regulations and guidelines.
  • Serve as point of contact for any audit, risk assessment, and regulatory exam.
  • Serve as Accounting Department liaison for credit union projects; ensuring the project properly integrates into the general ledger, core, or other accounting related systems. Read all internal publications including Source and Possibilities.

  • Perform all other job duties as required or assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree Accounting or related field required
  • 5-8 years Similar or related experience required
  • Detail-oriented with a high level of problem-solving skills to coordinate accounting functions.
  • A high degree of poise and tact to represent the credit union positively in outside contacts of importance to the credit union.
  • Working knowledge of computer programs including Microsoft Office Suite with proficiency using Excel
  • Regular and reliable attendance is required.
  • Possession of a valid, unrestricted driver's license.
