We are offering a short term contract employment opportunity for a Bilingual Legal Secretary in a major city in Texas. This role involves providing support to multiple staff attorneys, handling correspondence, preparing legal documents, and providing translation services.
Responsibilities:
• Provide general secretarial support to staff attorneys, including preparation of legal documents and correspondence
• Translate for clients who speak a different language than their advocate
• Use word processing software and databases proficiently and accurately
• Ensure compliance with Legal Services Corporation Act and regulations
• Maintain accurate legal files, client records, and tickler systems
• Handle client interviews both by phone and in person
• Maintain phone log, visitor log, and intake schedule as required
• Maintain professionalism and confidentiality towards clients, visitors, and other employees at all times
• File legal papers/pleadings at the courthouse or through e-filing, including setting hearing dates, and interacting with court staff, opposing parties, and clients
• Monitor and accurately maintain case status through electronic case management system.• Proficient in both English and Spanish for effective bilingual communication
• Comprehensive understanding of legal terminology and procedures
• Practical experience in case management
• Strong ability in e-Filing and handling e-File systems
• Skilled in calendaring and scheduling legal appointments
• Ability to handle inbound telephone calls professionally
• Expertise in translating legal documents from English to Spanish and vice versa
• Capable of performing administrative duties in a legal setting.
