Why does the job exist?

Position will exercise independent judgment to carry out a wide variety of administrative support functions for the Children's Court Attorney office to include preparing court pleadings and correspondence, scheduling meetings and court dates, maintaining case files, preparing fiscal documents, etc.

How does it get done?

  • The secretary will provide legal office support in a professional manner and within specified deadlines. (40%);
  • The secretary will answer the telephone in the local Children's Court Attorney office in a courteous, professional, and timely manner and will greet clientele when necessary. (25%);
  • The secretary will prepare financial documents in the local Children's Court Attorney office in an efficient, timely and accurate manner. (25%);
  • The secretary will provide clerical support and any miscellaneous requests in an efficient manner. (10%).


  • Minimum Qualification

    High School diploma or Equivalent with six (6) months of directly related clerical and/or secretarial experience utilizing legal terminology, procedures and documents. Substitutions Apply. See Substitution Table below.

    Education Experience 1 High School Diploma or Equivalent AND # of months or years of experience specified in the minimum qualification 2 Associate's Degree AND Zero years of experience
    • Education and years of experience must be related to the purpose of the position.

    • If Minimum Qualification requires a specific number of "semester hours" in a field (e.g. 6 semester hours in Accounting), applicants MUST have those semester hours in order to meet the minimum qualifications. No substitutions apply for semester hours.

    Employment Requirements

    Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Pre-employment background investigation is required and is conditional pending results.

    Working Conditions

    Work is performed in an office setting: late hours and weekends work may be required. Will be exposed to regular periods of video display terminal and keyboard usage and stressful situations. Incumbent will cover large geographic area, therefore, extensive travel is required. Possible exposure to irate clientele. Incumbent will work under stress and frequent time constraints.
