This job was posted by : For more information, please see: Job Description: The Legal Secretary will work with an Assistant County Attorney to complete entry-level supplemental casework related to criminal, juvenile, traffic, or care and treatment matters. The employee will work closely with the court system, law enforcement, other agencies and citizens and must possess the ability to interact professionally. The employee in this position may handle sensitive and confidential matters and is expected to use good judgment. This position reports to the supervisor and/or County Attorney. Job Duties: 100% - Responsible for maintaining a complete, detailed and consistent electronic record of all case activities for the cases assigned. Works directly with assigned attorney and/or supervisor to manage and maintain assigned caseload, complete pleadings, prepare trial exhibits and other task as assigned. Manages and organizes cases with differing timelines and multiple reporting agencies and counsel. Responsible for case work that can contain sensitive or graphic contents and possesses the ability to professionally handle the contents and show an appropriate level of confidentiality. Makes progress in gaining a working knowledge of assigned case area and case management software. Works closely with the Court, law enforcement and other cooperating agencies to obtain reports, statements and pleadings. Drafts pleadings and journalizes hearings under the direction of an attorney. Compiles reports and media for upload into the e-discovery software for appointed and retained counsel. Uses the court e-filing system to upload pleadings and download filings. Knowledgeable in Microsoft Office software; including Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office products. Establishes working relationships with law enforcement, court personnel and assisting agencies. Demonstrates consistency and reliability in attendance and excellent time management skills. Performs all other duties as required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Legal Secretary- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Basic troubleshooting of computer related issues, including hardware, software, programs and applications used commonly for work, and data storage and downloading, including Internet protocols and limitations with data transfer. Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions provided in written, oral, or diagram/representational formats. Ability to compute rate, ration, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Convey and receive detailed or important information and instructions to and from various agencies and the public. Express and exchange ideas by means of appropriate and most effective form of communication. Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Carry out duties with reliability and consistency. Speak effectively before individuals and groups of people. Work well with others and build strong professional relationships. Compose routine reports and correspondence. Learn and understand basic criminal and civil procedures, including appropriate legal terminology. Effectively utilize all office machines and equipment. Demonstrate skills in oral and written communication, including proofreading and review of all case documentation.
