The Cybersecurity Consultant will assess, design, implement, and manage an organization’s security infrastructure. The role involves advising clients on best security practices, performing security audits, and mitigating potential threats. This consultant will work closely with internal IT teams or clients to establish security strategies, policies, and solutions to protect data and prevent breaches.
Key Responsibilities
- Risk Assessment & Audits: Conduct thorough security risk assessments and vulnerability audits to evaluate the organization’s current security posture.
- Security Strategy Development: Develop and implement comprehensive security strategies tailored to client needs and industry standards.
- Incident Response & Recovery: Provide guidance on incident response procedures and assist with post-incident analysis, including recovery plans and remediation.
- Threat Analysis: Continuously monitor, analyze, and respond to security threats and vulnerabilities within client systems and networks.
- Compliance Management: Ensure that the organization complies with regulatory requirements, such as GDPR, HIPAA, or ISO 27001, depending on the industry.
- Penetration Testing: Conduct penetration testing to identify weaknesses and propose solutions for strengthening defenses.
- Security Awareness Training: Lead training and awareness programs to educate employees about security risks and best practices.
- Technology Recommendations: Recommend and help implement security solutions such as firewalls, anti-virus software, encryption, identity management systems, etc.
- Collaboration: Work closely with IT teams, network administrators, and system architects to integrate security solutions effectively.
- Security Policies: Develop, document, and enforce security policies, procedures, and protocols.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or related field.
- Experience: 3-5+ years of experience in cybersecurity, IT security consulting, or a related field.
- Certifications: Relevant certifications such as CISSP, CISM, CEH, CompTIA Security+, or GIAC.
- Technical Expertise: In-depth knowledge of cybersecurity frameworks (NIST, ISO 27001), threat management, SIEM, intrusion detection systems (IDS), firewalls, and encryption technologies.
- Soft Skills: Strong communication and presentation skills; ability to explain complex security concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Problem-Solving: Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills; quick response to security breaches and incidents.
- Knowledge of Security Tools: Experience with security tools such as Splunk, Nessus, Wireshark, and Metasploit.
- Compliance Knowledge: Familiarity with relevant legal and regulatory frameworks (GDPR, HIPAA, PCI DSS, etc.).
Preferred Skills:
- Experience in cloud security (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud).
- Experience with DevSecOps and security automation tools.
- Knowledge of endpoint security and mobile device management.
- Experience working in various industries (financial services, healthcare, government).
