The National Security Department (N912), located in Annapolis Junction, MD, within MITRE’s Intelligence Center has the responsibility to deliver a cross-organizational set of projects for the MITRE Intelligence Center. We provide cybersecurity and SIGINT expertise to ensure the resilience and survivability of DoD, IC infrastructure, and National Security Systems (NSS) in the face of adversary threats. Our mission is to enable a cybersecurity posture that promotes protection and prevention of actions taken to compromise mission critical devices, services, platforms, products, and software of interest to the U.S. and its allies. Our highly agile team provides support across sponsors using knowledge and skills such as cybersecurity engineering, applied research and development, reverse engineering, software engineering, systems engineering and integration, offensive and defensive cyber operations, advanced cyber threats, adversary methodologies, cyber threat intelligence analysis, and technology analysis and assessments. Roles & Responsibilities: Conduct applied research and development in one or more of the following technical cyber areas: cybersecurity, cryptographic lifecycle, threat informed cybersecurity, weapons and space systems cybersecurity reverse engineering, cyber software development & devsecops, 5G/6G, analytic development, systems engineering, vulnerability analysis, mitigation development, system assessments, cyber threat intelligence, offensive and defensive cyber operations, AI/ML, post-quantum implementations, digital engineering. Research and develop unique, cutting-edge technical capabilities and processes for understanding, assessing, and analyzing system and technology resilience and security Lead the development of systems security and cybersecurity strategy development, system testing and evaluation, and verification and validation efforts Learn and assess new and emerging technologies and trends, find vulnerabilities, and developing recommended paths forward to mitigate the vulnerability Advise sponsors as a trusted third-party independent entity on solutions to their most difficult cyber and engineering problems. Drive solutions to best counter adversary cybersecurity and reverse engineering efforts through system design practices, countermeasures and other mitigations, or possess the ability to conduct reverse engineering research and development. Basic Qualifications: Active TS/SCI with Polygraph clearance Typically requires a minimum of 10 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 8 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 5 years’ experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience. Demonstrated success in applying cyber security engineering principles to conduct system engineering analysis. Knowledge of the technical cyber areas mentioned above under roles and responsibilities. Ability to clearly summarize research results verbally and in writings/diagrams. Ability to work with others to solve challenging technical problems. Self-directed and capable of independent work. Position requires current/active Top Secret/SCI clearance with polygraph and ability/willingness to work full-time onsite in secure government workspaces. Ability to create win-win solutions with a positive “make it happen” attitude. This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site presence. Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Cybersecurity, or related engineering discipline with minimum of 10 years of related experience; or Master’s degree and 8 years of experience; or 5 years of experience with a Doctoral degree; or an equivalent combination of education and related work experience. Broad knowledge of intelligence community organizations, missions, operations, and processes. Recent experience/domain expertise working and collaborating closely with IC customers. Skills and commitment to building, contributing to, and sustaining high-performance teams, achieving team goals, growing trust, and collaboration. Must be a self-starter with creative thinking and problem-solving capabilities, able to function within an ambiguous and dynamic environment with minimal supervision. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Effective in interacting with technical staff, analysts, and operators ranging from junior-level contributors to the most senior leaders in the government.
