SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
The Manager - Track Standards provides technical direction and oversight of special trackwork design, Track Material Standards, Track Standard Plans
and Engineering Practices.They manage a staff of engineers who design special trackwork and for high-speed, passenger railroad track.They coordinate
track design projects with their Engineering counterparts in Electric Traction, Signals and Communications and Structures.They are a technical resource
for the Division Engineers and Engineering Production.They review engineering designs by consulting engineers for Amtrak projects and for third-party
construction on, or adjacent to Amtrak right-of-way.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Provides oversight and guidance to the track standards team in the development and review of special trackwork designs for track renewal and new
track construction.
• Manages staff to meet project design and construction schedules.
• Enforces quality control reviews and procedures to ensure that special trackwork designs meet standards and are conducive to the safe and reliable
operation of all train service over Amtrak owned and operated rail lines.
• Maintains standard plans and leads the development of new standards
• Conducts field inspections to investigate situations before making engineering recommendations
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Civil or Industrial Engineering and at least 7 years relevant, progressive work experience, or in lieu of a degree
11 years of relevant, progressive work experience in special trackwork design and construction.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Master's Degree in Mechanical, Civil or Industrial Engineering
• Professional Engineer's license in one of the States along Amtrak's Northeast Corridor.
• Industry leadership or participation in AREMA, TTCI, or other technical society.
• Experience with railroad operations.
• Background in manufacturing, material science or metallurgy.
• Railroad and special trackwork construction experience
• Qualified in AMTRAK RWP and AMT II
• 15 years of relevant years of relevant, progressive work experience in special trackwork design and construction.
COMMUNICATIONS AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:
Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
The salary/hourly range is $124,600-$161,352, Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, internal equity, etc. Depending on an employee's assigned worksite or location, Amtrak may consider a geo-pay differential to be applied to the employee's base salary. Amtrak may offer additional incentive and pay programs to recognize and reward our employees, including a short-term incentive bonus based upon factors such as individual and company performance that is commensurate with the level of the position and/or long-term incentive plan compensation.
