Job Summary
Fishbeck is pursuing a full-time Construction Engineer to work in our Civil Field Department in our Indianapolis, IN office. The primary duty of this position is to assist senior engineering staff in the administration and oversight of construction projects for the Indiana Department of Transportation, Local Agency, and municipal clients. This position requires self-motivation, commitment to high-quality work performance, excellent planning and communication skills, and ability to assist staff in a project team environment. Applicant must be willing to travel and work in an outdoor environment.

Job Summary
Fishbeck is pursuing a full-time Construction Engineer to work in our Civil Field Department in our Indianapolis, IN office. The primary duty of this position is to assist senior engineering staff in the administration and oversight of construction projects for the Indiana Department of Transportation, Local Agency, and municipal clients. This position requires self-motivation, commitment to high-quality work performance, excellent planning and communication skills, and ability to assist staff in a project team environment. Applicant must be willing to travel and work in an outdoor environment.
Primary Functions
- Assist with project administration, construction oversight, and coordination for construction projects of varying size and scope, including but not limited to highway and bridge rehabilitation and reconstruction projects.
- Verify the contractor's completed work complies with the contract documents for assigned projects.
- Assist the project engineer in oversight of technicians for inspection, administration, and documentation of infrastructure projects from pre-bid meetings to contract close-out.
- Review work produced by the project oversight team in both the office and the field and verify the acceptability of the generated documents.
- Provide guidance and training to inspection staff.
- Communicate effectively with client representatives, staff, local agencies, and the general public.
- Effectively communicate project status and issues to the project engineer.
- Assist in drafting of responses to contractor correspondence, claims, and RFIs as needed and appropriate.
- Assist in reviewing contractor submittals.
- Assist with construction progress meeting minutes.
- Learn and assist in duties associated with developing responses to client Requests for Proposals.
- Ability to stand and sit as needed on project sites.
- Ability to drive a motor vehicle to reach work sites; ability to maneuver project sites with uneven terrain.
- Ability to read materials, both printed and on a computer, smart phone or tablet screen; and hearing and speech to communicate.

- Applicant must be able to lift at least 50 pounds of testing equipment or materials.
Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Technology/Construction
Desired Skills/Experience
- Potential candidates must have 3 or more years of INDOT, or heavy highway and/or bridge construction experience, or knowledge of field inspection and construction oversight procedures. Significant field experience a plus.
- The ability to resolve conflicts in a professional manner.
- Strong teamwork and leadership capabilities.
- A valid Indiana driver's license with a good driving record.
- INDOT SiteManager Proficiency
- INDOT Quality Assurance Testing Certifications
- INDOT Stormwater Training Course Certification
- Experience with both INDOT and Local Agency / municipal projects.
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management.
- EIT in the Indiana with the ability and intent to obtain a PE license.
