Responsibilities:
The Supervisor, Dock is responsible for supervising the process of unloading, sorting, handling and loading freight safely and efficiently in accordance with verbal and written instructions, as well as Federal, State and customer regulations. Controlling and maintaining all records required for accurate, on-time completion of shipments is also required. The Dock Supervisor must work in a team environment to accomplish work assignments and delegate work to dock personnel.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Oversee the movement of freight, stock, or other materials to and from storage or production areas, loading docks, delivery vehicles, ships, or containers, by hand or using trucks, tractors, or other equipment.
- Read work orders or receive oral instructions to determine work assignments or material or equipment needs.
- Give directions to the dock team on work assignments.
- Handle escalated customer complaints and resolve issues.
- Provide dock team guidance on instructions given orally and in writing, including those on manifest and other shipping documents.
- Control and maintain all records required for accurate, on-time completion of shipments.
- Work in a team environment to accomplish work assignments.
- Manage employee time-off requests and updating their times in the time keeping system.
- Manage team schedules and breaks.
- Ensure team accomplishes all responsibilities correctly and efficiently.
- Train employees on all tasks and timely update them on all process changes.
- Ensure team follows all company policies and procedures.
- Ensure safety methods and programs are implemented and maintained.
- Support and promote company core values.
- Regular attendance is required.
- Comply with company C-TPAT and TSA security procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of a bachelors degree and 2-5years of managerial experience. Experience working in Freight Forwarding or Transportation industry preferred. However, a combination of experience and/or education will be taken into consideration.
- Ability to operate forklifts and pallet jacks.
- Attention to detail and good follow-up skills.
- Good judgment; know when to escalate issues and when to try to resolve.
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office, internet, web-based, and job-specific software applications. Must be PC proficient with ability to type and update computer system quickly and accurately.
- Proven competence to communicate clearly and persuasively with all levels of an organization.
- Must be a self-starter and ability to work with little direction in a fast-paced environment.
- Must be a team player with a high level of energy and self-motivation.
- Must possess a high level of attention to detail in composing, typing and proofing materials, establishing priorities, and meeting deadlines.
- Must have excellent spelling, grammar, and written/oral communication skills.
- Ability to plan, organize, and manage multiple projects and set priorities.
- Ability to work independently or in a team setting, in a fast paced environment.
- Must be mentally and emotionally capable of handling a high stress environment.
- Must be able to interact well with others.
- Ability to read and interpret general business documents.
- Ability to write routine reports and general business correspondence.
- Ability to work with peers and communicate basic concepts.
- Ability to solve problems with a variety of concrete variables through semi-standardized solutions that require some ingenuity and analysis.
- Ability to draw inferences and follow prescribed and detailed procedures to solve moderately complex problems.
- Must be able to pass TSA screening to work in an IAC environment.
- Must be eligible to work in the United States.
