Position summary:  
The Recruitment & Talent Acquisition Manager is directly responsible for conducting and managing the organization’s day-to-day recruitment efforts.  The Manager will work collaboratively and in partnership with the Chief Talent Officer, to strengthen the organization’s talent acquisition strategies and recruitment operations and tactics.  The Manager is expected to work collaboratively with the Chief Talent Officer, members of the Human Resources team, hiring managers and leadership across the organization to build a pipeline of high-performing talent to meet current and future staffing needs of a growing organization. 

Responsibilities:
  • Actively source and recruit talent to meet current and future needs across the organization, ensuring a consistently strong pipeline of qualified candidates with a focus on diverse talent.
  • Meet regularly with the Chief Talent Officer and management to keep abreast of short- and long-term hiring needs and strategies. 
  • Develop and implement innovative recruitment strategies to source and attract high-performing talent across various roles and teams in the U.S. and internationally.
  • Serve as a trusted partner to hiring managers, taking time to understand hiring needs, conduct job analysis as needed, draft or revise job descriptions, prepare and route new hire requisitions for approval, and collaboratively structure the recruitment/interview process for each role.
  • Utilize a variety of sourcing methods, including job boards, employee referrals, social media, staffing agencies, and networking to establish mutually beneficial relationships with institutions, organizations, groups or individuals that could open doors for identifying prospective applicants.
  • Lead the work of job posting/advertising, networking and sourcing, and screening and interviewing applicants.
  • Mentor, work collaboratively with, and manage the recruitment work of HR staff who are occasionally or regularly supporting and performing recruitment work.
  • Take the lead in reinventing the organization’s internship program with the ultimate goal of developing a pipeline of prospective employees.
  • Ensure a positive candidate experience throughout the recruitment process, from initial contact to onboarding.
  • Champion diversity and inclusion initiatives, implementing practices that attract a diverse pool of applicants.
  • Track and analyze recruitment metrics to assess the effectiveness of strategies and to inform data-driven decisions.
  • Working collaboratively, ensure the applicant tracking system (JazzHR) is being leveraged to its fullest potential to maximize effectiveness and efficiency in the recruitment process, applicant tracking and the applicant experience.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, salary benchmarks and best practices to maintain a competitive edge in attracting talent.
  • Contribute to an enhanced American Humane employer brand by working collaboratively with the HR and Marketing teams on creative marketing initiatives and ensuring a positive candidate experience.

Essential experience, knowledge, skills and abilities:
  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration or related field strongly desired.
  • Minimum 3 years of proven experience in recruitment and talent acquisition required, with at least 1 year in a managerial role preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of recruitment best practices, techniques, tools/resources, and platforms.
  • Experience recruiting for the nonprofit sector strongly desired but not required.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to quickly build relationships across all levels both internally and externally.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively, maintaining regular and frequent communication with key colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Ability to lead and mentor other team members not in a direct reporting line.
  • Shows a high level of maturity and ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
  • Exhibits sound ethics and high level of judgment and discretion when dealing with sensitive or confidential information.
  • Demonstrates flexibility and a willingness to embrace change in a growing organization.
  • Demonstrates a leadership mentality, taking a pro-active, solutions-oriented, collaborative approach to work and decision making.
  • Excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail.
  • Develop plans and manage workflow but able to shift gears quickly if priorities or circumstances change.
  • Solid analytical skills with experience in recruitment metrics and reporting.
  • Proficiency in using and managing an ATS, such as JazzHR, strongly desired.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other technologies, in particular, Teams, Outlook and Zoom.

Physical demands and work environment: 
  • Position will be a hybrid of office/telework with the position based out of the Washington, DC headquarters location and regular telework schedule based on organizational policy and manager discretion.
  • Must be comfortable with animals, in particular dogs, in the office and at events.
  • Occasional travel will be required for recruitment or to attend organizational events.  Most travel will be local or to other AH office locations.
  • Must be comfortable working and navigating scheduling across several different time zones- domestic and international.  On occasion, this may mean some minimal evening or weekend work.
  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee will regularly be required to:
    • Sit for extended periods;
    • Look at and work off of a computer screen for extended periods;
    • Talk, hear, and exchange information over the telephone, virtually and in person.
