Scientific Drilling is looking for a Manufacturing Assembler to work at our Applied Technologies Center in Paso Robles, CA. Scientific Drilling is an independent directional drilling and wellbore navigation, surveying and logging Service Company serving customers worldwide. Our industry leading navigation systems provide definitive wellbore placement information, enabling safer and more efficient placement of tightly spaced wellbores throughout the world. Our Manufacturing Assembler position will be working in our Manufacturing department.

The Manufacturing Assembler is expected to perform the essential duties listed below. Candidates must have authorization to work in the United States.

Responsibilities:

    • Committed to Safety as first priority.
    • Learn through hands on training while focusing on achieving necessary level of proficiency.
    • Must be able to complete and pass Solder training course and have the ability to maintain certification.
    • Rely on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job.
    • Assemble mechanical and electrical assemblies and sub-assemblies using hand tools and calibrated equipment.
    • Follow blueprints, work instructions and wiring diagrams to assemble mechanical and electronic devices.
    • Crimp, stake, screw, bolt, weld, solder, epoxy, press fit and/or performs similar operations to join or secure parts in place, using hand tools, power tools, machines, and equipment.
    • Mount assembled components, such as transformers, resistors, transistors, capacitors, integrated circuits, and sockets on printed circuit boards and chassis.
    • Connect component leads to printed circuit boards or routes and connects wires between individual component leads and other components, connectors, terminals and contact points using soldering procedures and equipment.
    • May perform assembly operations under microscope or another magnifying device.
    • May be required to work in a Clean Room environment, must be able to adhere to the Clean Room standard operating procedure.
    • Perform on-line go-not-go testing and inspection, using magnifying devices, measuring instruments, and electronic test equipment, to ensure parts and assemblies meet production specifications and standards.
    • Learn applicable IPC standards. Must successfully complete solder training course (company provided).
    • Strive for continual improvement to quality.
    • Work efficiently to finish jobs in a timely manner.
    • Work under supervision of Lead or Supervisor.
    • Adhere to and improve safety standards.
    • Manage workstation and practice good housekeeping techniques.
    • May be required to work overtime.
    • Pursue every job with drive and determination.
    • Use logic to solve problems with effective solutions.
    Perform other relevant duties as assigned by the needs of the business.

Education, Experience, Certification and Training:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • 1-3 years of experience infield or related area
  • Experience with proper soldering techniques and ESD prevention a plus.
  • Manual Dexterity and ability to use common hand tools is a plus.
  • Basic MS Office skills (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Current IPC Certificate a plus.

Location, Physical Requirements and PPE

Manufacturing:

  • Ability to walk, stand, sit, kneel, push, stoop, reach above the shoulder, grasp, pull, bend repeatedly, identify colors, hear with aid, see, write, count, read, speak, analyze, alphabetize, lift and carry 25 lbs. and under, perceive depth, and operate motor equipment.
  • Conditions include working inside. Working around moving objects, machines with moving parts. Working around radiant and electrical energy. Work with heated soldering iron and flux. Working closely with others, working alone, working extended or irregular hours. Working environment may include but not limited to, intermittent noise, fumes, smoke, grease, dust, oils and solvents.

Equipment (machines, tools, devices) used in performing the essential job function include but not limited to computer and related equipment, calculator, special instrumentation, hand tools, power tools, air tools, microscope and telephone. Ability to wear proper personal protective equipment (PPE), including but not limited to, safety glasses, reinforced toed shoes, gloves, and ear plugs or muffs.
