Job PurposeDesign and implement low-cost, right sized manufacturing solutions that align with key lean principles. Plan and improve production methods and estimate production times to meet production goals. Develop innovative solutions that augment, support and improve assembly and manufacturing operations, including mechanical fixturing, automation and controls. Act as manufacturing subject matter expert to drive process and product design improvements. Provide results driven technical support in all manufacturing functions. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Establish improvement goals and objectives that provide world-class performance to the organization. Establish and track meaningful reports & measurements. Ensure proper execution through the use of Key Performance Indicators (KPI's) and metrics.
Oversee and direct the manufacture of products and process optimization. Analyze product and material flow, cycle times, and quality for process improvements.
Research, evaluate, develop and implement new manufacturing methods and equipment to provide world-class manufacturing capability and competence. Improve and enhance current manufacturing methods. This includes low cost, right sized automation.
Provide direct support for automated assembly and test systems in the manufacturing environment.
Coordinate and communicate with other department representatives to ensure manufacturing activities are aligned to achieve the schedule, fulfill sales orders, meet inventory requirements, ensure on-time delivery, and meet or exceed customer requirements and business goals.
Develop, update, and implement operating and quality control procedures, and ensure they are met. Ensure established procedures and processes are followed. Proactively lead the manufacturing engineering team to continuously improve processes and procedures.
Research and develop information system solutions, control systems, and testing methods to improve production data collection, provide process automation and error proofing, and enhance data reporting.
Champion continuous improvement efforts and provide input on processes, procedures, materials, product structure and services to support innovation and continuous improvement.
Provide guidance to engineering regarding product structure of new and existing products to ensure proper routing and flow through production. Prepare and review Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and Bills of Material (BOMs).
Participate in product development DFx reviews to provide manufacturing input on designs for manufacturability and assembly. Facilitate the transition of products from product development to production.
Champion continuous improvement efforts with the team and promote healthy, respectful communications.
Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
1. Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field.
2. Minimum 1-2 years of direct manufacturing experience involving automated and semi-automated manufacturing equipment.
3. Experience or background with automation controls design or system development in a manufacturing scenario. LabView, PLC programming and 3D solid Modeling experience preferred.
4. Demonstrated experience in process improvement initiatives including design of experiments (DOE).
5. Deep understanding of Lean manufacturing, ISO quality procedures, and mechanical and electrical assembly preferred.
6. Demonstrated proficiency with operating internal and external software systems at an advanced level not limited to: Word, creating Excel spreadsheets, graphs and charts, SharePoint, Visio, preparing presentations and using statistical software to analyze and interpret process data.
7. In depth knowledge and experience with ERP/MRP systems (SAP preferred).
8. General knowledge of control systems, electrical testing and troubleshooting, etc.
9. Strong multi-tasking, attention to detail, written, verbal, and presentation skills required. Ability to accurately and thoroughly document processes, procedures, and training documents.
