This position typically involves a range of tasks that support the production process, from the design and development of manufacturing processes to troubleshooting and optimizing existing workflows. Here's an overview of the key responsibilities, skills, and qualifications associated with a typical Manufacturing Engineer role:
Key Responsibilities:
• Process Design and Improvement:
o Develop, design, and optimize manufacturing processes to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance product quality.
o Identify and implement process improvements, including automation or other technologies that reduce waste and increase productivity.
o Analyze manufacturing processes (e.g., machine, operator, component, and setup) to identify bottlenecks or inefficiencies and propose solutions.
• Product Lifecycle Management:
o Manage the product lifecycle, ensuring that products are manufactured according to design specifications, quality standards, and cost constraints.
o Ensure design for manufacturability (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA) principles are applied early in product development to facilitate easier and cost-effective production.
• Collaboration with Cross-functional Teams:
o Work closely with R&D, production, quality assurance, supply chain, and other departments to ensure manufacturing processes meet product requirements and specifications.
o Act as a liaison between engineering and production to facilitate communication and resolve any production-related issues.
• Documentation and Revision Control:
o Ensure that all design documentation, including part drawings, specifications, and assembly instructions, is maintained and updated according to the revision control processes.
o Ensure the ERP system is updated with accurate documentation and bill of materials (BOM).
• Tooling and Fixture Design:
o Design, develop, and maintain assembly fixtures, tools, and other equipment used in the manufacturing process.
o Evaluate the need for new tooling and suggest improvements or upgrades to enhance efficiency.
• Quality Assurance and Compliance:
o Implement and enforce quality standards throughout the manufacturing process, ensuring products meet both internal and external requirements.
o Support the implementation of lean manufacturing principles, continuous improvement including Kaizen workshops and events, and other quality initiatives aimed at reducing defects and improving productivity.
