Job Summary

Dunn County is currently accepting applications for a Custodian, working Monday through Friday 8:00am to 4:30pm. The Custodian is responsible for performing general cleaning and custodial duties at Dunn County facilities including cleaning floors, furniture, windows, emptying garbage cans, cleaning restrooms, and other related cleaning tasks.

The anticipated starting wage is between $17.41/hr and $18.38/hr.

Primary Responsibilities

The following duties are primarily performed and which are essential for this position. Employees are expected to be able to perform each of these job duties satisfactorily and successfully to be qualified for the position. Other duties may be required and assigned.
  • Collects garbage throughout facilities and places into dumpster; collects and disposes of infectious waste, recyclable materials, cardboard, etc. as appropriate.
  • Cleans floors, walls, windows, tables and other furniture in entrances, eating rooms, public access areas, elevators, kitchens and other areas.
  • Cleans public restrooms including sinks, faucets, mirrors, lights, toilets, urinals, floors, etc; replenishes soap and other disposables.
  • Provides assistance with emergency and disaster procedures; assists with the evacuation of patients, residents, consumers and employees.
  • Performs other duties of a comparable level/type, as required.

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
  • High School Diploma or GED

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
  • Valid driver's license or the ability to travel between work locations.
  • This position requires access to Criminal Justice Information (CJI) systems and data. Pursuant to federal regulations and state law, all employees with CJI access must undergo a fingerprint-based criminal history background check prior to employment and every five (5) years thereafter. Information from the background check will not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining the applicant's suitability and competence to perform in the position.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES QUALIFICATIONS: In order to perform the duties of the Custodian position the following knowledge, skills, and abilities are essential for the Custodian to possess.
  • Knowledge of operation and use of power sweeper and power floor scrubber.
  • Knowledge of all safety precautions, risk management procedures and proper lifting techniques.
  • Knowledge of the application, use and proper storage of all chemicals used in the performance of the job.
  • Knowledge of cleaning techniques and materials.
  • Knowledge of floor and carpet care.
  • Knowledge of basic computer operation.
  • Ability to use and operate applicable tools and cleaning equipment.
  • Ability to read, understand and follow safety procedures and product instructions.
  • Ability to use a variety of cleaning techniques utilizing appropriate chemicals and cleaning equipment.
  • Ability to work independently to carry out assignments and cleaning routines under general supervision and direction.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work direction.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and professional working relationships with department personnel, supervisors and Dunn County personnel.
  • Ability to follow Dunn County policies and procedures.
  • Ability to manage time effectively, manage multiple projects, and complete work within established deadlines.
  • Ability to work the allocated hours of the position.

MINIMUM LANGUAGE SKILLS QUALIFICATIONS: In order to perform the duties of the Custodian position (listed above) the following language skills are essential for the Custodian to possess.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with other staff members, supervisors, and community members in written and verbal form.
  • English skills (oral, written and comprehension) sufficient to effectively communicate with all internal and external customers.

MINIMUM REASONING ABILITY QUALIFICATIONS: In order to perform the duties of the Custodian position (listed above) the following reasoning abilities are essential for the Custodian to possess.
  • Ability to understand and effectively carry out verbal and written instructions.
  • Must have ability to work accurately with attention to detail.

MINIMUM MATHEMATICAL ABILITY QUALIFICATIONS: In order to perform the duties of the Custodian position (listed above) the following mathematical skills are essential for the Custodian to possess.
  • Ability to make arithmetic computations using whole numbers, fractions and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rates, ratios and percentages.

Physical and Work Environment

Potential risk of exposure to communicable disease, blood borne pathogens, and other bodily fluidsChemicals used in performance of the job pose potential risks for inhalation of fumes, chemical burns and skin absorption. The work environment involves exposure to materials and situations that require following safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment. The County provides safety and risk management training and equipment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Physical effort will typically require infrequent exertion of objects weighing up to 75 pounds, regular, but not continuous, exertion of objects weighing up to 25 pounds, and/or physical effort will typically require prolonged and frequent exertion of objects weighing up to 10 pounds.
  • This work requires occasional exertion of up to 75 pounds of force, frequent exertion of up to 25 pounds, and up to 10 pounds of force continuously to lift, carry, push and pull.
  • Work occasionally requires sitting; frequently requires standing and walking; occasionally requires stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling and climbing; and frequently requires reaching with hands and arms.
  • Work has standard vision requirements.
  • Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word.
  • Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels.

Workers' Compensation

Social Security: The County matches employees' social security compensation.

Vacation: Accrual is based on years of service with the County. For non-management positions, starting at 3.4 hours accruing each pay period (11 days per year), with the maximum accrual rate of 29 days per year. For management positions, starting at 3.08 hours accruing each pay period (10 days per year), with the maximum accrual rate of 29 days per year.

Sick: Accrual is fixed at 3.7 hours accruing each pay period (12 days per year).

Holidays: Ten paid holidays: New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, a Spring Holiday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, the Day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve Day, and Christmas Day.
