Description
SUMMARY.
The custodian is responsible for performing custodial duties in order to maintain the buildings and facilities in a healthy, safe and sanitary manner.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES.
EDUCATION.
Must have a valid Texas Driver's License, a good driving record, reliable transportation and proper insurance coverage on automobile used for work. Monthly reimbursement for applicable and documented work related expenditures is provided. Travel within the city and its surrounding areas will be required (if applicable).

Description
SUMMARY.
The custodian is responsible for performing custodial duties in order to maintain the buildings and facilities in a healthy, safe and sanitary manner.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES.
- Clean and sanitize all areas of building or facilities using established practices and procedure.
- Clean, dust and wipe furniture; sweep, mop or vacuum floors; empty/clean wastebaskets and trash containers; refill restroom dispensers
- Assist with setup of facilities for meetings, classrooms, conferences, events, etc.
- Strip, clean, buff and apply floor sealer and floor finish to hard surface floors, vacuum and shampoo carpets.
- Use and maintain assigned power equipment and hand tools; buffers, auto scrubbers, extractors, high pressure washers, high speed buffers and vacuums, brooms, mops, and squeegees for the cleaning and general maintenance of floors, walls, carpets, furniture, etc.
- Wash walls and keep equipment in proper working order; use ladders when required in work assignments.
- Secure building when facilities are not in use. Lock and unlock assigned buildings, report any unauthorized occupants, turn off lights.
- Follow instructions regarding the use of chemicals and supplies. Use as directed.
- Attend to emergencies when necessary i.e., spills, etc.
- Attend safety meetings and other related meetings
- Comply with work orders and preventive maintenance schedules
- Safely operate all vehicles and other job related equipment
- Must have knowledge of OSHA requirements
- Must attend First Aid, CPR and AED class and receive certification (2 year certificate offered)
- Perform other duties as assigned
EDUCATION.
- High School Graduate or GED
- 2 years custodial experience in building or facilities maintenance
- Thorough knowledge of custodial equipment practices, procedures, chemicals and solvents, safety practices
- Skill in stripping and waxing and polishing floors
- Skill in cleaning methods and procedures, sanitation, safety, security and building maintenance
- Proficient in attention to detail, follow directions
- Read and write and comprehension of directions in order to perform job duties
- Proficient in English and Spanish (preferred)
- Ability to promote efficiency, teamwork and interaction with staff, partners and members
- Ability to maintain custodial supplies and inventory to ensure adequate service levels
- Prepare custodial department accident report
- Take required classes in cleaning methods and techniques, new products and working relationships
- Maintain documents related to local, state & federal agencies
- None
