General Definition of Work
Performs semiskilled work in the care and cleaning of school buildings and grounds, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Supervisor of Maintenance and Custodial. Occasional oversight is exercised over assigned staff.

Essential Functions
Sets up and breaks down equipment and furniture for special events including athletic events.
Sweeps, vacuums, buffs, strips, waxes and dust mops assigned areas.
Removes trash from rooms and buildings and puts in containers and dumpster.
Scrubs and cleans toilets including mirrors, wash basins, urinals, commodes, slop sinks, etc.; fills tissue, towel, soap and other dispensers; disinfects as needed.
Cleans storage rooms and equipment; unloads and stores supplies and deliveries.
All other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
General knowledge of cleaning methods, materials and equipment; general knowledge of the effective application of cleaning materials and solvents, and how to use them economically and safely; general knowledge of the use of safety gear and equipment, such as personal protective equipment (PPE) and hazard warning signage; some knowledge of mechanical repair; ability to understand and follow oral and written directions; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school officials, associates, students, parents and the general public.
Education and Experience
Less than high school diploma or GED and minimal experience in custodial work, or equivalent combination of
education and experience.
Physical Requirements
This work requires the regular exertion of up to 25 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 100 pounds of force; work regularly requires standing, walking, using hands to finger, handle or feel, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling, lifting and repetitive motions, frequently requires speaking or hearing and tasting or smelling and occasionally requires climbing or balancing and stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, using of measuring devices, operating machines and observing general surroundings and activities; work frequently requires exposure to wet, humid conditions (non-weather) and occasionally requires working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, exposure to outdoor weather conditions, exposure to vibration and exposure to blood borne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
