The purpose of this position is to clean and maintain county buildings.Duties include building cleaning, lawn maintenance, grounds work, maintaining parking lots and sidewalks, and performing other duties to ensure buildings are usable each day.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following duties are normal for this job.These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive.Other duties may be required and assigned.

Performs routine cleaning duties to include sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, emptying trash, removing debris indoors and outdoors, cleaning windows, stripping and waxing floors, and performing any special cleaning requests.

Performs routine minor maintenance duties in buildings to include checking light fixtures, changing bulbs, painting, moving furniture and other similar assigned manual maintenance tasks.

Orders and maintains supply inventory for cleaning and maintenance duties.

Maintains all equipment utilized to include lawn equipment, snowplows, maintenance equipment, and assigned vehicles.

Handles routine grounds maintenance duties to include mowing grass, weeding, fertilizing, trimming shrubs and trees, maintaining the sprinkler system, and maintaining plants.

Maintains all sidewalks and parking lots by removing debris, snow and ice when necessary.

Reports any needed repairs

Utilizes a variety of machinery and equipment in performing duties such as a lawn tractor, snow blower, push mower, lawn vacuum, chipper, weed eater, vacuum, floor scrubber, general hand tools, snow plow truck, skid steer with plow, sander/salter, etc.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Requires a high school diploma or equivalent, a minimum of one (1) year experience in building custodial and maintenance activities; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.

MINIMUM ABILITIES REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Physical Requirements:

Must be physically able to operate a variety of machines and equipment including a lawn tractor, push mower, lawn vacuum, snow blower, chipper, weed-eater, vacuum, floor scrubber, general hand tools, lawn maintenance equipment and pickup truck mounted snowplow, skid steer, and zero turn.

Must be able to move or carry job related objects or materials. The ability to regularly exert up to 25 lbs of pulling, pushing and lifting force, with the ability to sometimes exert up to 100 lbs. of pulling, pushing, lifting force.

Requires the ability to exert medium physical effort in regular physical activity, may involving standing, walking, bending, crouching, lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling objects or materials.Also requires the ability to exert heavy physical effort in heavy work typically involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching, lifting, and carrying.

Numerical Aptitude:

Requires the ability to utilize mathematical formulas; add and subtract; multiply and divide totals; determine percentages; determine time and weight; and interpret same as may be appropriate.

Language Ability:

Requires the ability to read a variety of documentation, directions, instructions, methods and procedures.

Requires the ability to prepare documents with proper format, punctuation, spelling and grammar, using all parts of speech.

Requires the ability to effectively communicate with other county employees, vendors and the public.

Interpersonal Communication:

Requires the ability to communicate with people to convey or exchange information.

Environmental Adaptability:

Requires the ability to interact with people to receive instructions.

Duties are performed throughout the facilities and outdoors, which could cause exposure to extreme heat, cold, dust, wetness, electrical units, machinery and toxic chemicals.Related occupational hazards could include heat exhaustion, frostbite, loss of hearing, chemical burns, electric shock, loss of limbs, and headaches.

Consequences of Error:

Errors can lead to loss of time by the employee or other county employees.Building and grounds safety could result in liability for the county due to litigation from injury.
