GENERAL FUNCTION:
The Welding Superintendent is responsible for supervising and leading skilled welders and supervisors in performing specialized tasks related to shipbuilding and repair. This role is key in coordinating daily activities, resource management, and ensuring the completion of welding operations to meet quality standards.

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Guide and coordinate welding activities to meet project goals.
  • Develop, review, and maintain construction plans, schedules, budgets, and essential documentation.
  • Interpret construction drawings, specifications, and technical guidelines accurately.
  • Ensure materials and labor are allocated efficiently.
  • Oversee work schedules and adjust for overtime as required to prevent project delays.
  • Liaise with other production management members to harmonize welding departmental efforts.
  • Uphold high-quality standards and ensure all work aligns with company standards.
  • Mentor and motivate team members to drive productivity.
  • Address personnel, equipment, and facility issues promptly and implement effective solutions.
  • Assign tasks effectively to maintain balanced workloads.
  • Handle hiring, terminations, promotions, and transfers.
  • Enforce company policies, procedures, work practices, and safety standards.
  • Work in confined spaces, at elevations over five feet, and wear respiratory protection when necessary.
  • Execute other tasks as directed by management.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of 7 years of welding experience in shipbuilding or repair industry.
  • Previous supervisory experience is preferred.
  • Proficiency in specific welding techniques and processes.
  • Strong organizational skills, particularly in resource planning and scheduling.
  • Collaborative work style with other production supervisors.
  • Demonstrates high energy, positivity, and resilience.
  • Skilled in labor estimation and manpower scheduling.
  • Knowledgeable in standard marine practices and general specifications for construction/repair.
  • Strong focus on quality, production, safety, and environmental standards.
  • CWI (Certified Welding Inspector) certification is preferred.
