Summary

The Technical Trainer will be responsible for developing, managing, and delivering comprehensive training programs for our steel fabrication business. This role focuses on upskilling existing shop employees, administering pre-employment welding and fitting tests, and ensuring all training programs meet the highest standards of quality and effectiveness.

Skills and Requirements:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent and completion of a technical school or certification program in welding/fitting or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in a structural steel fabrication environment, with at least 3 years in a training or supervisory role.
  • Skills:
    • Strong knowledge of welding, fitting, and steel fabrication processes.
    • Excellent instructional and presentation skills.
    • Ability to design and implement effective training programs.
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Bilingual (English/Spanish)
    • Ability to travel as needed.

Responsibilities

Training Program Development and Management:

  • Manage and deliver “Banker U” training programs.
  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve training programs for all levels of employees in the steel fabrication process.
  • Create training materials, including manuals, videos, and e-learning modules.
  • Ensure all training programs comply with industry standards and safety regulations.

Employee Upskilling:

  • Assess the skill levels of current shop employees and identify areas for improvement.
  • Maintain training matrix.
  • Maintain Mentor/Trainer list.
  • Develop individualized training plans to enhance the skills and productivity of the workforce.
  • Conduct hands-on training sessions in welding, fitting, and other key fabrication processes.

Pre-Employment Testing:

  • Design and oversee pre-employment tests to evaluate the skills of potential new hires.
  • Ensure testing processes are fair, consistent, and aligned with the company's skill requirements.
  • Provide feedback and recommendations to the hiring team based on test results.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Monitor the effectiveness of training programs through feedback, assessments, and performance metrics.
  • Stay updated with the latest industry trends, technologies, and best practices in steel fabrication and training methodologies.
  • Implement improvements to training programs based on feedback and new developments in the field.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Work closely with plant managers, supervisors, and HR to understand training needs and objectives.
  • Maintain clear and open communication with all stakeholders regarding training schedules, progress, and outcomes.
  • Foster a positive learning environment that encourages growth and development.

Working Conditions

  • Primarily based in a shop environment with some office work.
  • May require standing for extended periods and the ability to lift to 50 pounds.
  • Must adhere to all safety protocols and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
