Job Description

Basketball Instructor for classes beginning September 9th to instruct ages 4-11 (in small groups) on Saturdays from 9am-noon and additional hours during the week if interested. Must be at least 18 years old.

Soccer Instructor for classes beginning September 9th to instruct ages 4-11 (in small groups) on Saturdays from 9am-noon. Must be at least 16 years old.

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Provides direct supervision of a group of children in a sports program. Creates positive, nurturing relationships with children, while building cooperative relationships with parents/caregivers. Promotes and supports the potential of all youth in programs and facilitates peer-to-peer connections as part of the overall program experience.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Instruct sports classes/events of up to approximately 10-30 youth

  1. With the program agenda provided by the Sports Director, instruct participants in the proper techniques of the major sports offered during different times of the year
  2. Promote character counts values (caring, honesty, respect, responsibility)
  3. Ensure all equipment is used properly, cleaned, and returned to the appropriate locations
  4. Set-up and clean-up before and after class each day
  5. May assist in events such as Kids Night Out, Healthy Kids Day, races, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of 1 year working with youth or in a leadership position preferred
  • Knowledge in teaching/instructing the fundamentals of one or more of these sports: basketball, soccer, t-ball/baseball, flag football, volleyball, and floor hockey
  • Must have or obtain CPR and AED certification
  • Must have or obtain clearances for working with youth
