DEFINITION:
Heads a dental program with responsibility for providing a wide spectrum of professional dental services and professional training.
Plans, directs, and assigns the various phases of a large and varied dental service program in a County hospital.
Formulates and develops administrative and technical standards for dental services.
Reviews the dental program, initiates and evaluates new methods and modifies procedures to provide better dental care and to effect greater efficiency in operation.
Performs as a Trauma Team Member in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery for a Level I Trauma Center.
Formulates policies and plans for internship and residency programs.
Prepares budget justifications and writes specifications for equipment, supplies, and personnel.
Interviews prospective employees to determine their suitability to fill vacancies.
Provides dental care or performs the most difficult professional tasks, such as serving on a surgical team which treats fractured jaws or removes tumors and cysts.
Coordinates dental activities with those of other hospital services.
SELECTION REQUIREMENTS:Four (4) years of experience in the practice of dentistry, one year of which must have been in a supervisory, administrative, or teaching capacity.
LICENSE:
A California license to practice dentistry issued by the Dental Board of California -AND- A Radiation Safety License issued by the Dental Board of California -or- A certificate of compliance from an approved Board course in radiation safety. Graduation from an approved dental program, accredited by the American Dental Association, after the year 1980 complies with the Radiation Safety Requirement.
PHYSICAL CLASS II:
Light physical effort which may include occasional light lifting to a 10 pound limit, and some bending, stooping or squatting. Considerable walking may be involved.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT INFORMATION:
In order to receive credit for any certificate, license or Board certificate you must include a legible copy of the official certificate, official license, Board certification from the accredited institution which shows the area of specialization; with your application or within 7 calendar days of filing. Applications submitted without the required evidence of licensure and/or certification will be rejected as incomplete.
EXAMINATION CONTENT:
This examination will consist of training and experience based upon application information and desirable qualifications, weighted at 100%.
Candidates must achieve a passing score of 70% or above in order to be placed on the eligible register.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
Additional points will be awarded to applicants who possess the following:
- Supervisory, administrative, or teaching dentistry experience beyond the Selection Requirements.
Applications will be processed on an "as-received" basis and those receiving a passing score will be promulgated to the eligible register accordingly.
The names of candidates receiving a passing score in the examination will be placed on the eligible register in the order of their score group for a period of twelve (12) months following the date of promulgation.
