Summary of Duties of the Housekeeping Supervisor
The Housekeeping Supervisor is responsible for the planning, organization, and direction for the overall operation of the Housekeeping Department with support from the Director of Maintenance or Executive Director. The Housekeeping Supervisor will work in accordance with and federal, state, and local standards and guidelines. The Housekeeping Supervisor supervises all employees of the department and may be responsible for the hiring, training, and performance management of the associates within the Housekeeping Department. Additional duties of the Housekeeping Supervisor may include maintaining and ordering supplies, investigating resident and customer concerns, and ensuring a high level of customer satisfaction.
Essential Functions of the Housekeeping Supervisor
- Supervises housekeeping staff to complete housekeeping schedules and project assignments to meet company quality standards and within budget.
- Provides training of housekeeping associates.
- Performs all housekeeping cleaning activities including common spaces and resident rooms (see specific task details included in the Housekeeper Job Description).
- Maintains the care and use of supplies, equipment, etc. and the appearance of housekeeping areas, and performs regular inspections of resident areas and rooms for sanitation, order, safety, and proper performance of assigned duties.
- Maintains the department in an “inspection ready” state at all times, assuring the department operates within federal, state, and local regulations.
- Performs regular inspections of resident, ancillary, and common areas for sanitation, order, safety, and comfortable environment.
- Inspects storage rooms, utility, and janitorial closet, etc., for upkeep and supply control.
- Assures that housekeeping associates always follow established safety regulations in the use of equipment and supplies.
- May order all housekeeping supplies and equipment and maintains adequate inventory levels to provide a clean, safe, and comfortable environment, as directed by supervisor.
- Communicates with other community department leaders to adequately plan for housekeeping services and activities.
- Monitors resident move-ins and move-outs and responds to resident requests promptly and according to policies. Ensures that apartments are cleaned and ready for move in by assigned date.
- Processes invoices and payables efficiently, according to policies and procedures, as directed by supervisor.
- Attends and participates in community leadership team meetings as requested.
- Participates in continuing education opportunities for personal growth and development.
- Promotes the professional growth and development of the entire team and the department employees at all times. Ensures that all housekeeping staff participate in all community training sessions required to perform their job duties.
- Completes housekeeper job performance reviews as requested by supervisor.
- Maintains appropriate security for all client-owned property, supplies, and operating funds.
- Performs other job duties and projects as directed.
Non-Essential Functions of the Housekeeping Supervisor
- Supports and participates in the resident centered activity programs.
- Participates in projects or committees as assigned.
- Attends all associate meetings including in-service education and associate functions, as requested by supervisor.
- Assists in variety of tasks involving residents as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Experience
- Possess genuine loving and caring attitude for seniors, ability to relate to residents and staff in a courteous and diplomatic manner under all circumstances.
- Ability to read, speak, and write in English.
- Must possess the following: attention to detail, leadership, coaching skills, teamwork, excellent communication skills, and time management.
- Must have High School or GED equivalent at a minimum.
- Minimum of one to three years supervisory experience working in a hospitality setting or a senior community, preferred.
- Complete all required employment screenings including criminal background check and drug screenings.
- Ability to lift at least 40 pounds; Must be able to lift, carry, stand, bend, squat, crawl, reach, kneel, push, pull, and twist using good body mechanics for sustained periods of time.
