Personal Trainer

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Personal Trainer at the Arlington-Mansfield Area YMCA serves others by intentionally welcoming, connecting, and supporting them and inviting them to get involved and give back to the community.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Creates a safe environment in which all individuals feel welcomed and respected; builds relationships with and among members and program participants.
  2. Screens individuals' medical histories and current health status to identify major health risk factors; administers fitness assessments and counsels' individuals regarding assessment results.
  3. Leads effective and safe individual and group training sessions to meet the objectives of the clients. Instructs training following program guidelines and operates all equipment properly.
  4. Performs routine maintenance of equipment.
  5. Understands different health needs; observes and adapts training intensity level to support all participants' capabilities, physical conditions, health, and culture.
  6. Provides clear explanations and exercise material with proper form and technique.
  7. Remains alert and attentive to all participants in the facility.
  8. Asks and answers questions and displays empathy in support of helping member and program participants build confidence to achieve their health and wellness goals.
  9. Identifies and celebrates the successes of members and program participants.
  10. Maintains working knowledge of wellness and trends to provide effective information and support to members.
  11. Communicates YMCA policies, programs, and event information to clients.
  12. Keeps accurate training records.
  13. Follows YMCA policies and procedures; responds to emergency situations.
  14. Attends all staff meetings and trainings as scheduled
  15. All other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • National personal training certification from ACE, ACSM, NETA, AFAA, NASM, NSCA, YMCA, WITS, ISSA, AAPTE, IFPA, NCCPT, NCSF, NESTA, NFPT, or COOPER INSTITUTE.
  • Successfully pass a formal interview and exercise practical skills to demonstrate exceptional knowledge and competency as a personal trainer.
  • Related degree or relevant experience preferred.
  • Obtain and remain compliant with all standards assigned by YMCA of the USA and AMA YMCA.
  • Flexible work schedule, including evenings and weekends is a plus.
  • Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.
  • Commitment to inclusion and compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
  • CPR/AED/O2/First Aid certifications and Child Abuses Prevention, Anti-Harassment, Blood Borne Pathogens, Hazard Communication Awareness, and Slips, Trips, and Falls trainings required within 30 days of hire.
