PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
This role will be supporting the U.S. Fleet Forces Command (USFF) Headquarters (HQ) at USFF Norfolk, Virginia at a Government facility/site. As a member of their USFF Communications and Information Systems Division (N6) Support Team, you will significantly contribute to Navy Fleet Readiness and Homeland Security. The team is involved in information technology (IT) support tasks including but are not limited to Program Management support, Network Engineering support, Maritime Operations Center/Tactical Systems support, Video Teleconferencing and Audio/Visual support, Portal Management and Application Development support, Staff IT Business Process/IT Services support, Satellite Communications Planning support, Information Assurance (IA)/Certification and Accreditation support, Database Administration support, Communications Security/EKMS support, and general IT support, as well as maintenance, updating and enhancement of developed application/software.
Job Responsibilities:
The Network Engineer shall provide IT engineering and technical services and support for a broad assortment of system engineering and support functions. The Network Engineer shall provide direct support services for overall and complete operation and maintenance of the Headquarters SECRET, NATO, Coalition and UNCLASSIFIED networks and associated hardware and software
Provides support for network connectivity or related network issues for the command.
Assists with plans for the installation of network systems.
Monitors network activity and identifies network problems to discover and prevent systematic errors. Recommends network
design changes/enhancements for improved systems availability and performance.
Troubleshoots diagnoses and resolves network problems. Escalates problems beyond his/her capability to rectify any network
deficiencies or to enhance network performance.
Analyzes facilities bandwidth requirements and system interdependencies. Develops capacity planning models.
Assesses network performance to ensure that it meets the present and future needs of the command.
Use of enterprise system monitoring and management tools such as Wireshark, Websense, Solar Winds and NMAP.
Uses commercial enterprise-level tools and products to provide network services, including firewalls, Cisco Firepower, Cisco
ISE, TACACS+, IPS/IDS, DNS, DHCP, web security, ACS, VPN and NAC.
Installing and racking servers and network equipment
Cable (ethernet and fiberoptic) installation and troubleshooting
Job Requirements:
Knowledge of the Defense Information Systems Agency published STIG requirements and implementation/compliance
process.
Knowledge of CND compliance requirements for all managed networks and systems.
Working familiarity with Cisco IOS, EIGRP, BGP, GRE, IPS/IDS, TACACS+, ACS and OSPF, with demonstrated hands-on experience configuring Cisco routers, switches and firewalls.
Education:
Associate's degree in mathematics, engineering, computer science or other related field and 1 year of related experience, or
AA/AS related field or Computer Network Administration Certification and 2 years of related experience. In lieu of formal
education, 4 years of experience specifically related to the below qualification requirements.
CompTIA Sec+
CCNA: Candidates who do not currently possess the CCNA certification, but meet all other minimum requirements, may be
considered for this position. If selected, the candidate will be required to obtain the required certification within twelve (12)
month time period.
