Job Description
Responsible for performing specialized duties in relation to water meter maintenance, meter reading, customer service work orders, utility billing processes and water conservation. This is a safety sensitive and/or DOT position and is subject to random drug testing by the city.
Example of Duties
The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description. Repairs minor leaks inside water meter boxes by replacing damaged parts; performs field tests on water meters when leaks are discovered. Troubleshoots electronic equipment for automated meter reading system; replaces damaged electronic equipment as required. Reads and records consumption of residential and commercial water meters with manual reads; verifies that readings are within parameters and troubleshoots problems related to meters and reading equipment. Installs, repairs, replaces, and inspects water meters, meter pits and meter reading equipment, valves, pressure regulators and flow testing meter. Installs, moves, removes, and performs on-site testing of temporary fire hydrant meters for construction companies and sites. Responds to customer service requests, not limited to: connections, disconnects, rereading meters, checking for leaks, etc. and may be required to respond to emergency callouts or assist the operation crews with system repairs. Posts notices at physical locations in regard to billing, customer information, encroachment issues and perform work required to keep meter pits accessible. Maintains records of work performed and materials used. Actively closes and opens new work orders and prioritizes work to ensure assigned work is completed on time. Actively demonstrates online portal to customers to assist in water conservation and leak detection. Asset management not limited to truck, meters, meter parts, tools, Ipad, cell phone, etc. Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a team. Represents the City with dignity, integrity, and a spirit of cooperation in all relationships with staff and the public. Drive safely and defensively, wear seatbelt at all times, inspect the vehicle regularly, and adhere to all traffic rules and laws. Performs related work as required. Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma (or GED equivalent). At least one year of experience working closely with the public. Experience with "field work" related to a billing process. Possession of a valid driver's license with good driving record. If in possession of a valid out of state license, must pass and obtain Texas driver's license within three months of hire.
