Direct Service

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Performs tasks to assist the Maintenance Supervisor and the Program Staff in maintaining a clean and safe learning environment for the program participants, staff, and stakeholders.

Communicate with program staff, vendors, clients, contractors, and community stake holders.

Monitoring
  1. To report immediately any damage to property giving, whenever possible, the names of persons responsible, and report it to the maintenance supervisor as soon as possible.
  2. Ensure all properties are secure and alarm system engaged before leaving duty.
  3. Monitor the temperature of the building to ensure the property is comfortable.
  4. To sweep, mop, wax, dust, vacuum, and other general cleaning tasks assigned.
  5. To scrub and disinfect daily and clean drinking fountains, urinals, toilet bowls, and other fixtures daily using such materials as will keep them in a clean and sanitary condition.
  6. Wash all windows on both the inside and outside when assigned.
  7. The carpets must be vacuumed and any objects picked up pick up daily.
  8. Empties trash throughout the building, changes light bulbs, and refills towels and air fresheners as needed.
  9. The janitor takes note of any water damage and looks for sources to rectify the matter
  10. To be on duty in the building when events are scheduled outside of regular hours, if such is requested.
  11. To perform other duties as directed by the maintenance supervisor or program staff
  12. Minor planting, fertilizing and weatherizing
  13. Mow and water grass at all sites
  14. During inclement weather, duties include placing salt to dissolve snow and ice. Pathways and driveways need to be kept clear for easy access and to minimize risk falls.
  15. Snow removal at all sites to decrease accidental slip and falls and maintain a clear pathway for vehicles
  16. Duties as assigned may result in working weekends and/or holidays

  2. Vehicle Mileage Logs
  3. Others as required. Agency Activities/Trainings/Other

OSHA, Food Sanitation, CPR, First Aid, others as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

High school diploma or GED equivalency desired. (Ability to read basic operating instructions.)

Experience:

Some custodial cleaning experience or the ability to be trained in these areas.

Credential:

Valid Illinois Drivers License
