The Director of Business Development will lead the firm’s Business Development team in supporting the firm’s six practice groups. The role will be responsible for developing and executing growth strategies that attract new clients, retain existing ones, and enhance the firm’s market position. Other key aspects of the role include attorney and client relationship building, as well as mentoring and developing the firm’s high performing business development team to ensure alignment with the firm's overall strategic goals. This position will report to the Chief Legal Operations Officer. Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing Business Development team, ensuring alignment with firm goals and fostering a collaborative, results-driven culture. Support the Business Development Managers in compiling competitive intelligence reports, creating business development plans for each practice group and individual attorneys, focusing on client development, retention, and deepening relationships with key accounts. Collaborate with attorneys, Practice Group Leadership, Marketing, and Pricing teams to align business development strategies with firm objectives and market opportunities. Use data and analytics to assess business development effectiveness, optimizing strategies to drive ROI and growth. Lead cross-functional teams in the strategic preparation of responses to RFPs and client pitches, ensuring all proposals align with the firm’s strategic direction. Oversee the business development reporting function, tracking and measuring performance against KPIs, and providing actionable insights to leadership. Develop and execute a comprehensive client engagement strategy, identifying opportunities for value-added services, including leveraging strategic pricing and innovative technology tools to enhance client experiences. Lead client feedback programs, presenting findings to firm leadership and practice groups, and using feedback to inform business development strategies. Work with Practice Group Leadership, Marketing, and Pricing teams to assess the overall client experience, explore strategic pricing and service improvement opportunities. Provide periodic business development coaching and training to firm attorneys. Meet with Practice Group Leadership on a regular basis to develop, refine and assist in execution of business development plans and initiatives. Travel as required to support business development efforts across the firm’s offices. Stay abreast of industry trends and best practices, engaging in ongoing professional development through industry conferences, peer networking, and vendor relationships. Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, or related field required Minimum of 6 years of management experience in business development, marketing, or a related field Understanding of the business of law, law firm industries, and how practice groups service their clients. Experience working with law firm strategic pricing and profitability models is a huge plus Proven track record of delivering strategic business development guidance and planning with a measurable impact on revenue and profitability Experience mentoring, training, and providing professional development opportunities to team business development professionals Ability and desire to work collaboratively with other business professional teams including our Practice Group Directors, Marketing, Pricing, and IT teams. Experience working with professional services organizations is preferred Ability to multi-task and work effectively under pressure Ability to successfully manage multiple priorities Excellent time management and organization skills Experience using Qorus and other proposal generation software, CRM systems, and Microsoft software such as PowerPoint, Excel, PowerBI, and SharePoint.
